This lecture on drum composition in modern rock sounds a bit like that joke:

- I'm a doctor
- You're a dentist, okay? Don't try and get fancy

it's just drums, guys. Even non-drummers can "write" them parts, it's not the actual song. Relax.

That's how I feel about Beck, RHCP, Metallica, Foo Fighters, etc.

90s bands still going strong.. easily listenable.. and enjoyable even and putting out quality

unlike Baldy

I get it now.. life has changed for Billy and he doesn't think or feel the same.. but man you have ears right? you can hear the music or what?

I don't even listen to a lot of "rock" music for the last decade or so.. I love electronic music.. but man this Cyr and ATUM shit is unlistenable and fucking No Sun No Future whatever it's called is bad rock music.. Monuments was bad rock music with the exception of 1 or 2 tracks on there

Oceania had a little bit of quality and Zeitgeist had some quality tracks.. but for good quality music we'd need to go further back with Billy and the SP brand

Milk It. That's a good drumming song.

Also Oh, The Guilt has a great drum part.

Cool

Push-pull ratings of every Nirvana drummer:

Dave: 7/10
Dan: 200/10
Chad: 4/10
Other Dave: 1/10
Dale: 8/10
Aaron: 11/10

Dave played the drums on In Bloom and quite frankly may have made some changes to Chad's composition. But fair play to Chad for writing it.

Looks like we have a new drummer for the Foos as of today - Josh Freese.

Excellent
pick.

Went from "maybe they should call it a day" to "when are these guys coming near me this summer?" after the first song alone on the livestream that they did today. It's available for 72 hours and can be peeped fo free here:

https://foofighters.veeps.com/

I'm not too into "All My Life" but hot damn that drum interplay there during the first breakdown breathed some major new life into that song.

That tour was my intro to The Joy Formidable.

And now I pour one out for Eulogy.

Also this thread gave me the biggest, most raging boner to spin The Colour and The Shape on my way home. Y'all are crazy.

Well, it could be that, or just the thought of Joey Goldberg touching me giving me said boner.

I don’t think I have said what I want about the Foo Fighters yet. They are overrated just like Nirvana.

It's real funny that pumpkins fans are as bitter as billy about some bands.

No one here wants to put down the cash to make a song that sounds as good and even magical as monkey wrench does and it really shows

FF jumped the shark decades ago and the only reason they still have a career is David's 'bro dude but nice guy' persona.

oh and having all the other rock bands suck dick really helps too.

It's weird that FF got really popular when their albums got, to my ears at least, worse. First two albums are great.

exactly. i'd say they were enjoyable until post-wasting light upon which it got utterly tired and bland [even moreso]

but the first 3 are legit amazing records. floaty, exhausted, everlong, feb stars, hey johnny park, aurora, ain't it the life, mia....

This. Dave is just too powerful and rich for anyone in other bands to come forth and say “these guys are kinda douchecore”. He could get anyone’s career buried. You’d be thrown off every fest and Sirius playlist. My take has always been that Grohl is just like McCartney. Talented and has the public nice guy persona but a huge megalomaniac behind closed doors. The real Dave makes Billy look like the most humble guy on earth.

As for Josh Freese. He’s a capable and competent drummer, but I’ve always found his playing to be quite bland. I love the first APC album but the drums aren’t a standout on it. He has little in the way of a definable style or sound.

Agreed, that Blur song sounds great. And a few of the new Noel G songs aren't bad, though more back to his "middle of the road" style.

Blur are a great band. Their guitarist Graham Coxon is excellent - he has a couple of solo albums worth checking out.

Who is the drummer of the FF new album?
