Who will be the first to surf Netphoria with an Apple Goggle Master
Some of you seem loaded in the wallet department so, who's gonna volunteer and actually you know what you'd have no way of documenting for an outside audience what you were looking at, would you

If Steve Jobs hadn't tried homeopathy instead of Chemo he'd be here today to stop this shit.

One of my kids got up early this morning to find out all about it. He couldn’t stop laughing when he told me about how much it cost, when I got up, hours later.
I bought a Xiaomi fitness tracker instead of an Apple Watch, so that’s about where I am, in terms of likelihood of surfing anything with these whack ass overpriced goggles |

I guess I like the take that this is basically for developers to mess with and write good software for, and two or three generations from now there'll be an affordable one with some actual usefulness and appeal to normal people
I still don't know what that usefulness is but I guess that's tbd Like I have not really followed all these dumb helmets, but it seems like people just use them for games and porn, yeah? Doesn't seem like anyone's figured out how to make this shit seem as must-have as a phone or even a smartwatch |

i am not a gamer whatsoever - i got the facebook helmet and its best use case imo is watching movies
being in that space bridges the gap between watching a film at home vs at the theatre and it's very cool. you miss the big speakers and the popcorn smell and atmosphere but the visuals are like...70% there |

i used a facebook oculus or whatever to play some dumb game and it was a thrilling technical experience but i dont see them able to develop appetite for wide use. the whole metaverse thing now is most popular among 13 year old boys playing online games with each other and i suspect it will stay that way more or less

i wouldn't have any fun with this. i've seen architects and designers using VR headsets to visualize buildings before construction. but that's business.

It’d be used like most apple products - cash BONANZA for apple and WANKY JIZZFEST for fanboys.

I have an Oculus Rift, which I got on sale. I bought it to play Half-Life Alyx, which I got about half way through before not being able to take it anymore, just due to motion sickness when moving around. The only game I've found which I can still play on it is Thrill of the Fight, which is a fun boxing sim. It gives you a great workout, but of course you can push that as much or as little as you want. Movies, visiting landmarks etc are okay I guess but it doesn't do it for me.
Never tried it for porn, for the simple fact that I imagine you're pretty damn vulnerable if the people you live with come back earlier than you expected. |

He had gasteroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumor. That's NOT the super aggressive version of pancreatic cancer everyone thinks of. The survival rate for his type of cancer is 92%. Even after it's spread to other parts of the body and become advanced the survival rate is over 70%. Jobs chose NOT to do chemo or radiation, and fucked around with a bunch of natural remedies... until it was so far advanced that even real medicine couldn't save him. If he'd followed the standard of care for his diagnosis he would almost certainly be alive today. |

All these people think "what a tragedy this bazillionaire died of killer illness"... but it was very treatable. He died because he thought he was smarter than scientists and the entire world medical establishment.
He was diagnosed in 2003 and chose to treat it with acupuncture, fruit juice, and spiritual therapy. That sounds insane because it is insane. But it's exactly what he did. He delayed getting real medical treatment for something like a year... but by then he was in an advanced stage and had spread. He then tried every real medical therapy available, but it was too late. I read that he'd tried a bunch of weird "experimental" treatments too, like gene therapy. There are a lot of clinics offering pseudo scientific treatments too and it sounds like he tried all of them, but most of those are bogus too. Last edited by MyOneAndOnly : 06-19-2023 at 07:31 PM. |

I have a quest 2 and it’s pretty fun. Certain games are pretty motion-sicky, but others (Walkabout mini golf) are really damn good.
