(aware that "is Smashing Pumpkins dead" sounds weird, but "are" doesn't seem right either)

The Smashing Pumpkins died in 2000. The way I see it you can't not ******* James and call it SP. He started the band with Billy. Those original demos are Billy, him and the guy from The Marked on drums aren't they?

The latest incarnation is hardly a zombie-Jesus resurrection equivalent.

if you're gonna vote YES, then you better consider 4/24/99 the last show like paranoid said. in which case i welcome you to the cold world of the purist.

because if you vote YES and say 2000 then you're just a numbskull hypocrite dumbfuck. yea you know who you are.

no, and here is the proof straight from billy's mouth:

You know I'm not dead
Now you know where I've been
As you sleep
Torn I am
Weighted down
Patiently
Born of love
You know I'm not dead
I'm just living in my head
Forever waiting
On the ways of your desire
You always find a way
And thru it all
Into us all you move
Forgotten touch
Forbidden thought
We can never have enough
You know I'm not dead
Found below
The creatures scream
Stranglehold
A god machine
Begging to
Tear us out
Worn as hope
You know I'm not dead I'm just the tears inside your head
Forever waiting
On the ways of your desire
You always find a way
And thru it all into us all you move
Forgotten touch
Forbidden thought
We can never have enough
You know I'm not dead

We all want to hold in the everlasting gaze
Enchanted in the rapture of his sentimental sway
But underneath the wheels lie the skulls of every c.o.g.
The fickle fascination of an everlasting god
You know I'm not dead

I'm just living in my head
Forever waiting
Forever waiting on cruel death
You know I'm not dead
I'm just living for myself
Forever waiting
You know I'm not dead

The guy who wrote all the songs and had the majority of the talent is still in the band. Jimmy's loss sucks, but people who use the James is gone argument are just overly nostalgic dumb fucks. Oh and dont get me started on Darcy, she may have well not even existed at this point. Ive been a fan since 92, and im fine with the smashing pumpkins name being used for just one person. Its more about the music for me and less about the politics behind the scenes anyway, so who cares what name it goes by. Im enjoying what im hoping will be Pumpkins songs eventually from SITS.

The last time Billy "was" the Smashing Pumpkins was when he was walking around Chicago telling people he had a "band" as a joke.

Which, ironically, is exactly what Smashing Pumpkins has become.

Well then get the fuck out of here. You're making yourself out to be a hypocritical moron by posting on a smashing pumpkins board. If the band is dead, and such a joke then im sure your time would be more well spent by following a band that is still alive and kicking. What argument are you trying to make exactly, other than you're a wishy washy idiot. Make some changes dude, and move on.

it isn't necessarily about the members per se, it's that the songs have for the most part sucked and that old 'smashing pumpkins' spirit is dead and gone. and billy by himself can NOT possibly recreate that on his own.. so he should just move on, start a new band or solo project, and play something that is fucking honest for once. if he stuck with this spirits in the sky thing, made an album out of it, it'd come across a lot more honest than filing it under the SP name.

why? cause SP is dead. Billy is not however, so he should just et over SP and start fresh. what's so damn wrong with that? he wouldn't sell as many tickets? and if you morons really believe this "o it's my songs my spirit/concept' bullshit, well then enjoy the ride of paying higher ticket prices etc etc etc.

bill is all about the bills when it comes to keeping this dead name alive.

That old "Smashing Pumpkins spirit" was already dead when machina came out. I saw it, and heard it in the music. The band was dying. Billy's age has alot to do with the way people view the music now I think. He's not the angst ridden mid twenties alt-rock icon he used to be. He sees things and writes music in a different way now. Thats so hard for people to accept, because the rules have changed for him, but everybody wants him to play the old game he used to.

I dont know, I guess I just see things in a much less negative light then some of you. All I know is that im genuinely excited about what im hearing from Bill with SITS. So im focusing on the future of it all. Just my 2 cents. Whatever.

you're missing my point.. that old vibe is dead, so why doesnt he just move on and be billy corgan as he is now? he can still obviously write in that frame of mind (as billy corgan), and obviously can't write in that 'smashing pumpkins' frame of mind.

This old argument is bullshit. Thinking SP is dead does not mean you're disappointed that Billy's not "RAT IN A CAGE 2.0".

You say negative but i say realistic. If you genuinely like the direction of where SP2 is going then thats fine but you must realize that alot of people don't.
