yesterday morning i got to the miami airport at 8:30 for my flight to panama at 10:30 and found the line to check in at american was literally about a 1/4 mile long. i waited in the line for about 45 minutes, at one point realizing that my passport had expired over a month ago. then i got pulled out of the line because i didn't have any bags to check, got my ticket and got on the plane. now i have to get my passport renewed here, which means i might have to stay longer than i had planned and i might miss seeing seu jorge again.

britain has reciprocal arangements with a bunch of countries meaning you can travel on a passport less than six months out of date, perhaps there's something similar so you can get home ok. ring the embassy and ask.

thanks for the info. i've got to wait until tuesday to go to the embassy because monday is memorial day in the u.s.
