My "church" is everything in nature. The spiritual guidance comes from many forms. Ourselves, the old ones, or the ones who have already passed on. I don't think there is one omnipotent presence who sits in judgement of everyone.

I have seen mormons and the catholics come onto the reservation and try to save everyone from "hell" and turn them away from the old beliefs. It makes me sad when you see this happen. They still want to crush whats left of our spirituality. You wouldn't find an indian heading for someone elses home to tell them how to live or believe.
I've seen mormons go to some of the single moms who were pregnant and try to talk them out of keeping their baby. Alot of mormons come and donate all this money and they want children in return for it. Then they take their indian babies that they can get, and try to raise them up to believe in Joseph Smith and live like mormons do. They will brag about how they got themselves a little indian baby, and how they are reforming indians away from their bad ways. In their eyes they think they are doing some great for God. They use alot of tactics to get women to give over their babies. Some of the tribal leaders back in 2000 started limiting the mormons canvassing on the res. Because some of them would down right harass people. I'm sure monte will be here to deny that happening.
Depsite all of it I try to have respect for what others believe....but it doesn't seem most Christians respect - and leave other people alone to believe what they want. They want their religious freedom? well....so do others.

it would be much easier for everyone if the mormons had a paramilitary wing they could use to launch reservation rescue missions and save all the indian children from the combined curses of poverty, alcoholism and domestic violence

On Friday, September 11, 1857, two Mormon militiamen approached the Fancher party wagons with a white flag and were soon followed by Indian agent and militia officer John D. Lee. Lee told the battle-weary emigrants that he had negotiated a truce with the Paiutes, whereby they could be escorted safely to Cedar City under Mormon protection in exchange for turning all of their livestock and supplies over to the Native Americans.[21] Accepting this, the emigrants were led out of their fortification. When a signal was given, the Mormon militiamen turned and executed the male members of the Fancher party standing by their side. Reportedly, the militia let a group of Paiute Indians execute the women and children. The militia saved 17 small children who were deemed too young to relate the story. The bodies were gathered and looted for valuables, and were then left in shallow graves or on the open ground. Members of the Mormon militia were sworn to secrecy. A plan was set to blame the massacre on the Indians.

not now but I did

I've never had anyone ask me to prove the existance of God. I did grow up listening to Christians tell me I'm going to hell.

LOL they do have special missionaries for that. But they probably would love a special church or building in the bad lands.

simple counterexample to your claim: in the case of an unfair coin you have two possible outcomes, but you do not have an even chance of getting heads or tails. why would you think that the question of a god is best modeled by a fair coin?

In an argument, yeah it's just worthless prattle, and the last words of a brainless fool. But if you say something like this without the religious contexts derived from nothing, then there is pretty endless arguments over it. I mean when you just look at it as, how does everything come from nothing? or the infinite balances of the universe etc it's hard to say "There isn't something which made this happen". And if you're going to use the word god, it has got to be really loosely like the original point of this universe (and that's defining that by as far as we can). I mean it's infinite, if something started this then what started that etc, and then even if you are thinking completely out of the box you begin to try and start rationalising things you can't prove. But experimenting with ideas is good debate anyway, if it's coming from someone creative.

It's not dumb to say that, if you're not tying religion to it. But yeah if the person was.
