Default New Fender Signature Billy Corgan...

...must be hating right now.

Tom gets an entire Fender Collection (not counting the Gibson/Epiphone sigs) while Billy has to play in the minor leagues of guitar brands. He must be fuming.

their signature guitars rarely deliver the actual vision of the artist. Fender probably just want to slap some lace into a strat and call it a signature corgan, while corgan wants them to build something new and innovative. new and innovative is NOT the fender brand.

Nobody believes Tom Delonge could sell more signature guitars than Billy Corgan. Nobody!

Fender disrespected him, Gibson blew by him, that's pretty much what he had to say about it at the time

Or, more likely, he went in with some very unrealistic demands/expectartions. I mean even Dave Grohl and his inflated ego had no problem making the Trini Lopez model his signature model

Billy already had his sig Fender. The time came and passed. Didn’t need to be something they offered forever. Also Fender probably thinks a hard tail strat, which he would always demand, has a more limited appeal. He’s also not had a hit or released any kind of culturally relevant album for 25+ years. So they probably would think there’s a limited audience for it. The main people who would buy it are your typical SP guitar nerds and there aren’t that many of them.

Yeah, bet they wanted to slap his name on a bat strat spec’d Strat but he was having none of it, “you’re living in the past, I want a modern application to take the sound forward into the modern world” or something

Just found out those $1200 guitars are essentially glorified indonesian Squiers. Good lord

Bill will be even more upset. Just imagen the freaking profit margin on those badboys

I guess if by minor league you just mean brand recognition, because Reverands are nice fucking guitars

brand recognition and they don't have their own factory, it's all outsourced to some other company in South Korea

but that was before i realized Fenders are now just a bunch overprized indonesian Squiers

I'd really like to see the contracts drawn up for fender signature guitars. I assume they have business models that pay the artists pennies. "having a signature model secures your legacy, you should be paying us. and you also can't have any other signature guitars for 10 years from any other company moving forward"

Bill's exactly the chap that would never sign a disfavorable deal (despite the fact that all his peers do)

Red face

Billy Corgan's signature guitar is an Eric Clapton signature guitar.

Thr JMJM looks the part, plays the part and is fairly priced, which is exactly what oblivious, purse-snatching, washed-up 90s relics like Tom&Belly should be aiming for

Billy was asked about this as a Q&A I was at and he basically said that Fender was a shitty partner, did everything half-assed, and did the bare minimum to market the guitars. He said he was really disillusioned and was looking for a new partner that could truly bring his vision to life. (This was before he signed with Reverend.)

I have the signature Reverend and it’s a great guitar. It’s obvious that they care about his vision and bring it to life.

In no world does Tom DeLonge deserve a signature guitar and the fact that he has one justifies the argument that Billy made about Fender’s signature program being a joke.

I think Fenders, certainly entry level Fenders, are way over priced with questionable quality. You're better off getting a Squier or even a Harley Benton and modifying it.

Bill's ugly habit of blaming his failures on everyone else is a well-known fact tho. Talented people seem to make him uncomfortable.

Tom DeLonge, on the other hand, never blames anyone, has had several signature guitars with both Fender and Gibson and they've always sold out. Hell, even those bullshit Fender-branded Squiers are almost all gone already.
