So was this originally a single disc album that corgz has taken upon himself to turn into a triple album?

This could've been nice. The strings are good, they lessen the impact of the synths. Real drums for sure, but they don't sound really good.
Musically it reminds me of Air a little bit. Nice balance with the guitars and the strings. The little organ bit halfway through was nice, pity it then went into the Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy synth part. That ruins it really. It's unnecessary, drags the thing out. However, as usual here the vocals are pretty terrible and let the whole thing down. I don't care how much he goes on about singing as high as he can. No one really wants that, unless he's doing it in a nice falsetto. SAYING ALL THAT - it's probably the most musically interesting and ambitious thing on Atum so far. It's a pity it didn't burst into a huge guitar section after that little choir bit - instead of more Billy-singing-too-high. Is liking something because you dislike it the least somewhat toxic though? |

All those fucking synths sound like the soundtrack to a Lord of the Rings movie or to one of those fantasy videogames, i can hear the nerds being chuffed to bits "made it to the Hall of Armors!"

Well that was boring and meandering.
This song feels like watching paint dry. |

This is great, it’s basically a response to Netphoria over the years, cannot wait to dissect it all later.
Some valid points and some not so valid / misrepresentative. Also shout out to Corrine. Last edited by VoxUpDoc : 02-14-2023 at 11:10 AM. |

Barely halfway thru it (thanks Leftover Kid) and once again he can't wrap his head around the fact you gotta have a Kid A to get people to follow you from OK Computer.

At least there are drums and there are guitars, it's just that it takes so long to get to the slightly mildly interesting part. The vocals are awful, the synth is boring, the stupid organ part in the middle is stupid, it's not really worth it.

This crap about "the 16 year old girl came to me and some old fan gatekeeper said "name your 3 favourite songs" and they weren't B-sides and so she got abused!!!" is such absolute bullshit. Absolute lie of a story.
Who the fuck is Corinne and why is someone coming to her to report buLLyIng!!? |

"Gatekeeping starts at the top, it's all engineered from someone who is controlling the narrative" or words to that effect.
So, which one of you is it? Which one of you is gatekeeping ATUM so the rest of us already hate it? Because I no longer buy the notion that it's just clown shit fuck music, it's clearly one of you imposiing your negative gatekeeper vibes. |

A lot to unpack:
1. Corrine’s story about the young fan who couldn’t name a b-side but came back with her parents was not believable, and it’s the classic Corgan technique of setting up an imaginary voice to springboard whatever point is being made. 2. Nobody ever said “How dare you have a girl in the band?” re: Darcy. Didn’t happen. 3. Billy calls the band inclusive and can largely believe that comes from a genuine place, it also makes good business sense, but even though he has had some unfortunate rants and accusations of bullying etc in the past I think this can be taken at face value. 4. Calls Netphoria in the mid-00’s post-Zwan “stalker level bullying, targeting him with derision and mockery”. Well, yes this is true (ignoring the obvious power dynamic) But it stemmed from what was perceived as unforced errors in his creative decision making and amongst the trolling there was constructive criticism: the mixing, the vocals, which also proved to be commercially unsuccessful. If Billy has won that battle in any way it’s in rising above it and investing in his own interests, but a true win would be to reconcile those criticisms and return to critical and commercial relevance. 5. Netphoria “doesn’t like synthesizers but likes that one weird b-side from 5 years ago”. Well… yes… the ZG b-sides were stronger than the album material. Synthesizers aren’t bad but the overuse on the past two projects and basic sound is disappointing and something working with a decent producer might have resolved. The community wants to like new Pumpkins music and gives it a fair listen but these are more unforced errors. 6. I don’t understand the points about sexualizing young fans, there’s no evidence of this it’s completely unfounded. 7. Young fans are listening to Beguiled or “a song from Cyr” hmmm ok. I mean I like Cyr, but… ok. TBC… Last edited by VoxUpDoc : 02-14-2023 at 08:57 AM. |

You know he reads this place.
It's time for all of Netphoria and Billy to get in a room and talk it out. Hugs, tears, smashing teargarden boxsets. It could be therapeutic. |

I actually think the organ melody in the instrumental break of that song is really great! I grin a cheesy grin when I listen!
