Vasily Kafonov made several posts on Instagram over the last months reminding on his "Machina" artwork:
Not Smashing Pumpkins, but talking about greedy art dealers: fishtower #blast#from#the#past degardart nice, cool! fishtower @degardart thanks! Blast from the past, specially cool for my art dealer, he got enormous amounts after stilling from me almost for price of the canvas. I know the price as client contact me detect for the certificate or authenticity.. anyway thanks! |

Interesting to hear all the movement on this and Billy praising the earlier recordings.
Machina has a much greater chance of striking a chord with re-appraisal than Adore. Firstly, Machina has aged much better than adore, secondly plenty of the unreleased material is killer. Last edited by VoxUpDoc : 10-24-2018 at 12:26 PM. |

And Adore SOUNDS like a late 90’s rock band trying to do electronica pre-Kid A. As well as being long and boring for the most part.

It doesn't though. If you heard Adore without any context of who The Pumpkins were or had been before, your first thought would be "man this band should stick to the rock music they're so clearly hiding under all this electronica!"
It was an incredibly smooth transition sonically regardless of how much you like or dislike the album. Now End is The Beginning, that fits yer description (tho i love the shit out of it) |

This cover looks like dog shit you just slipped on:
But this I like, the repetition in the design fits with the repetition in a lot of the tracks. It looks like the product of some mechanical printing press. The imperfectness matches with the fuzzed out, bad reception sound of the album, and it suggests tension between people and technology. I could go on, but ultimately it speaks for itself. |

Judging Adore based upon meh drum machine tracks is like judging Machina based upon it's mix. Sure, that makes sense in some vein, but the songs themselves are beautiful songs (for the most part) in and of themselves.

FWIW Adore was a relatively early example of Billy's writing verging on poetry and unlike later works, it's mostly intelligible and comes across beautiful at times. I don't like comparing Adore to prior albums because it's its own beast, but Behold! The Night Mare has probably some of my favorite lyrics he ever penned.

Machina = hamfisted attempt to recapture the rawk. Jimmy should have stayed gone.
