Yeah god forbid anyone else talk about the band here besides you. And there's no need for any experts to weigh in. You're the biggest musical expert here. Tell us why his guitar wouldn't stay in tune.

I've just never spouted anything wrong here without looking into it first, where as a lot of you spout off things without checking your facts, as though they are fact. then you get all butt hurt when i say "they're not using a click track on once in a lifetime."

if that makes me a snobby expert, then sure i'll take it.

as for his guitar? i dunno man you played guitar with him i think you might have better insight on that one.

jeff definitely seems like a 'play to a click' guy

in that he thinks the forced monotony and sterility are positives. like, the fun of playing is to play perfectly with the click. like guitar hero

i agree with this. i've always stated his playing is flat and bland. not a very musical player.

a really good player can make a click track sound musical, so ultimately it's not the click that makes something sound flat.

Hard agree about Jeff’s playing. There’s just no fire to his playing. Very mannered. He seems like a nice guy though.

And as a guitarist there’s nothing I hate more than playing to a click. Occasionally I’ve done it if I’m laying down the instruments on a demo first, but it’s not fun. It’s pretty song dependent though. I can see why something like ‘Disarm’ was tracked with one when you want to have those precise downstrokes and for the orchestration.

Great question that I was going to ask here too, but forgot to.

Isn't the guy who hands him the guitar's ENTIRE JOB to tune the guitar before he hands it to him?

Or is it one of those WPC things where he feels the need to re-tune somebody else's work because it's not perfect... or are these new Yamaha acoustics that he used to tout falling out of tune that fast?

And, yeah - when he was talking about Chloe and he getting married, it was sweet.

Then - he goes and drops the "when I wrote this next song, she was exactly one year old..." line. And I thought "oh, cool. They're going to do a pre-Gish song. Or at least, you know, like Siva, from the Tower Records 93 set."

Nope. Disarm, lol. That's right. She was indeed born in 1992.

I had forgotten that there was THAT much of an age gap between the two of them.

yeah i feel really bad about saying James wrote the intro guitar to a song instead of just "the guitar" following a post that literally credited the entire song to him

James Iha wrote the guitar

Billy wrote the lyrics and melody

D'arcy wrote the VIBE

Jimmy wrote the DRUMZ

yeah. zwan was at its peak with only 2 guitars as well. 3 sounds like a good idea but ends up being clumsy or sounding like foo fighters

Those comments about the age gap were VERY strange and uncomfortable.

I've never been more uncomfortable watching an artist between songs than I have with Billy. It was the same when he played acoustic in Dublin in 2018, you're just on edge, because probably HE'S on edge, and it radiates outward. All those long pauses between songs, gulping water, awkward silences. When he did talk, fine, he told some good stories, but he could just as easily have told everyone to go fuck themselves. It's like he wants to make it awkward. Why say that stuff about Chloe?

He's always enjoyed making it as awkward as possible at points, think it's good fun for him. Bit like deliberately riling up the crowd, 'playing the heel'

Trent Reznor is playing the hell, Billiam's just a sociopath. Maybe not a mean spirited one, but his M.O. has always been reacting to some imaginary hostile environment.

Crowd's always too quiet or too loud, music world disprespects him, other's people talent is an existential threat, to the point he has to hire amateurs like Jeff, Mike, Strawtits that Monte dude etc... Bob English.

There have been some annoying Netpho users here over the years, but you are quickly heading to Trots level

Trent’s not playing the heel and probably hasn’t been since 1994. He’s just a normal dude who acts his age unlike Bill

He was overly aggressive with the audience during this show too. He aked for requests, someone says a MCIS song and he says "we can play that unreleased song called shut the fuck up".

Wtf. Unnecessary and cringe.

Even those who don’t like him as part of the smashing pumpkins need to chill. He’s a great player and a nice guy. He’s obviously not the root of issue within the band anyway
