SIYL stuff
As usual this is probably old since i don't know what people know or not, anyhoo:
I know in the SP video dvd, they talk about the SIYL video being based on the story of Salome, but i don't recall if he mentioned the Audrey Beardsley connection or not. So i thought i'd mention it anyway since i'm a massive fan of his turn of the century work and i've been getting into that stuff again. Audrey illustrated the Salome book, though there aren't a good lot of pictures of it online, but here is some of his other work and see why the SIYL video is based off it: http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9...yclimax8tc.jpg http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/6586/1475kw.gif |

i love how that first picture is almost an exact (except for the figure) replica of the opening for the video. And how (i believe at the end) it shows the drop falling into the water.

I really like the high contrast black and white. Not just the video but in artwork it jumps out at me for some reason.

Absolutely! A fantastic thread.. If you like Audrey's work, you might like Harry Clarke (1889-1931). I have an insanely illistrated edition of Faust by Goethe that I picked up from the library closure that is illistrated by Clarke that has always reminded me of SIYL. http://www.grandmasgraphics.com/grap...t/faust137.jpg |

Beardsley's art is very heavily imitative of Japanese Art from the era of the 'Art of the Floating World' I will dig up some examples.

On a side note, Monet has a ridiculous Ukiyo collection at Giverny, and of course there are those weird Van Gogh collages. It must have just been in the air!
Are there any comprehensive Beardsley books available? |
