Man, this shit sucks.

I'm seeing so many polarized takes that either minimize Israel's humanitarian crimes or celebrate Hamas' repugnant acts of terrorism. I don't know how to comment on what's happening without sounding like some detached asshole engaging in spectator sports from the comfort of a place that isn't a warzone. Especially because I live in a country that has contributed to the situation being what it is now. Shit is just fucked.

I have cousins and other extended family in Israel, though thank God everyone is currently safe

Most Americans don't really understand how badly the Palestinians are treated in the middle east. Not only by Israel, cause I think people get that Israel is not their friend. Whether it's Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, etc. None of the majority Muslim countries wants Palestinians in their country.

Countries like Iran are happy to arm Hamas and create havoc and horror in and around Israel/Palestine, but they really don't give a shit about the people in Gaza or the West Bank. Those folks are stuck there and exploited for geo political purposes by the rest of the Muslim world. And then in the West/Christian world they are treated like they're the Taliban or something, when in fact they've been fucked by just about everyone, the West, the UN, the Israelis, and every government in the middle East.

So today the bombs fall on Gaza, and Egypt mans their boarder with guns and barbed wire, keeping people penned in, unable to flee the war between Israel and Hamas.

Palestinians rejected Israel's offer of 97% of the West Bank and Gaza and then voted to elect Hamas. Onu used to provide resources and support to around 70% of people in Gaza.

I am not arguing that Hamas is not a violent horrible organization. I'm talking about the generations of people stuck in the west bank and Gaza and used as pawns and shit on by the same governments who are happy send Hamas rockets and watch them kill or die.... but they don't want the Palestinians setting foot in their country. I would liken it to the way the USA has armed and trained death squads in Latin America, formented coups, and then refused to help or aid any of the people who try to flee the carnage. We are building militarized walls on our boarder to stop refugees fleeing the atrocities we've created in Latin America.

That's ridiculous.

Fighting back against another military is not a genocide. Was the Allied bombing of Germany a genocide? Was bombing Japanese cities a genocide? How many Jews does Hamas have to murder before you think Israel is justified fighting back? 5000 dead jews? 10000 dead jews? All of the jews? Is that not a genocide under your definition?

Should they just allow thousands of rockets and bombs to launch from Gaza every day? And do nothing about it? While hundreds of Jews are kept as hostages? Gaza is riddled with Hamas's tunnels and operations posts. How do you suggest they stop Hamas from killing Israelis? Hamas wanted Israel out of Gaza, and 20 years ago they left. And things have only gotten worse.

I'm not speaking Pro-Palestinia here, but Israel should be aware of heavy reaction from neighboring islamic states whenever the ground attack towards Gaza and possibly West Banks settlements will start. The whole situation is pretty intense and both sides have already lost so much. i wonder if it will ever end.

not occupy a country and treat the original inhabitants as less then human?

they give them two small pieces of land in what used to be their country, one has a fence around it and amounts to an open air prison where Israel is in control of the water and electricity and 50% of it inhabitants are children, the other one is a lot bigger but people still get kicked out of their houses on a daily basis and slowly entire villages are taken over by settlers and people need to be in line for Israeli checkpoints every day to go to their day jobs.

I'm aware conversations like these tend to go on forever, just like the actual situation. but we all know where modern day Israel started and it's not like it was an empty country for the diaspora to take over, like it actually did use to be promoted. it's now ruled by a corrupt ultra-right nationalist madman and the whole situation is not about to get any better because of it. if you give one part of your country's population a lot more rights and freedoms than the other and you suppress and bomb the other part, you're inevitably creating terrorism. and since the IDF is killing innocent Gazans indiscriminately and half of them are actual children, more terrorist attacks on innocent Israelis are inevitable in retaliation.
