I’d rather they experiment with older songs and deviate from the album versions. I like this version of IotM. No need for them to play it exactly like 2000. Play the new stuff straight and drop Today, Disarm, Cherub, BWBW for some deeper cuts.

A bit of it. Before tonight tonight billy started picking the chords. James said that one sounded familiar- he thinks he saw it on youtube. BC says 'no i wrote this.' BC speaks the first couple lines, james starts to sing and admits he doesnt know the words as well as don henley. they strum through part of the chorus then BC then asks is it weird they are playing a song about california in texas? No, because everyone in cali has moved here

Oh ok. That actually sounds fun. I saw it on the online setlist and assumed it was genuine as it didn’t note otherwise

you're not gonna mention the totally ripping heavy metal "Once in a Lifetime"?

the audience looked so confused but I loved it

the whole show had a classic Pumpkins playfulness, staged or not, it was fun again

the Texas banter was genuinely a funny moment

and when the audience boo'd Billy responded with a "We love you" not combative at all

a lot of the show Billy was just yelling into the mic which sounded so much better than the vibrato thing

a lot more growls and screams than I expected

the heavy songs actually work with Jimmy back...idk this was the best of the 3 times I've seen them

They’ve been routinely amazing live, imo, since iha and jim chimbs returned. Makes these new recordings all the more confounding: why oh why don’t these dumb dicks just jam live and roll tape? Even if we want to smother it in synths get some other dumb dick to do keyboards live? Why must we suffer these horrible recordings???

I didn’t absolutely love the SP performance. I enjoyed it, sure, but I’ve seen them so many times in the last few years this one didn’t register near the top- the San Antonio show this May probably takes top notch.

I was very impressed with Jane’s. As they left the stage I said to the lady next to me that it was going to be a hard act to follow.

They weren’t amazing in Houston. One of the weakest sets I’ve seen them play. By the numbers hits and crappy new songs. They play like a band that hasn’t jammed in the same room together for years. Billy wandering the stage aimlessly looking like he didn’t know what to do with himself half the time. It was embarrassing.

Jane’s absolutely spanked them. They play like a well oiled machine from start to finish. They seem like a cohesive unit that actually enjoys playing music together. They decimated SP. It wasn’t even close.

SP seems like a bunch of people who are scared of Billy are being held hostage. Blink three times if you need help Jeff!

i saw dino jr last weekend and jesus christ. the VIBE felt like a real band should be. J's guitar sounded fucking massive, excellent, legendary.

versus SP which is kinda like...dry? you can't enjoy it like a normal rock show, you have to know about zuzu's and liveone to get what's happening

I bet that Dino Jr. show was rad. Yeah the SP performances since the Shiny tour have all seemed really canned and overly mannered. No energy, playing to a click track, using backing tracks. Just seems like they’re phoning it in. It goes along with Billy thinking they’re a Broadway show now or whatever.

This shit is subjective. This band X is better than this band Y and so on. If someone likes another band more, maybe they should spend more of their time on that band's message boards.

How is it you’ve been here 10 years and u still haven’t noticed that this board is a mutual peer-support network for longsuffering fans to work through the various stages of grief over this band that once was, and that once meant so much to us

This work is difficult, and it can even be messy sometimes. But it is well worth the effort, and i for one have made great progress in my universal acceptances

Don't you remember though back in the 90s when the Pumpkins were at their peak that they still had a large group of people that hated their sound? It's entirely possible that the some of the people that loved them then hate them now for the same reasons.
