I will say though, frustrating vibrato aside,

I think it’s really endearing of him to just want to play music for people, free of charge, for Christmas. He seems earnest and sincere in that livestream video. I appreciate it, a lot. I’ve been really critical over the years of some of his choices(the overused vocal vibrato being one of them), but I can also admit when I’m just being an asshole about it all. And I can’t knock him for this—it’s great. Here’s to you, Billy.

All his acoustic work since American Gothic have been like this. There's no melody, it's just clipped speech over generic strummed acoustic. He's not even singing anymore. It's his speaking voice with added vibrato.

There's no way he's doing this on purpose. Unless there's a recent example of him singing in his old style, I'd say he's destroyed his voice.

John Mayer literally cannot do that breathy "Body is a Wonderland" voice anymore because it ruined his vocal chords.

I agree with whoever said it wouldn't pass most open mic nights. Puts it in perfect perspective. You can like the performance, but most guitar players can pull it off. Nothing special or interesting

I think it's actually super cool he is playing Christmas songs with his daughter at his tea shop for free. Not much to the songs or whatever but hey it looked nice and cozy.

We all know h'se never going to play Christmastime again due to the Mcmurderson vid, sad!
