Default Headphones or Earphones?

How does Netphoria prefer to listen to its music?

I'm not an audiophile (that would be despicable, audio can't consent), so comfort and convenience matters more to me than pristine sound quality. Up until the Bluetooth Revolution, I was an earphone guy, because headphones felt cumbersome to me. Uncomfortable on my ears, and I hated having to carry them around my neck when not in use (especially when wearing a scarf).

But with everything being wireless now, I've switched to headphones. Harder to lose or accidentally drop than some cordless dongle. Also don't have to have this lumpy charging case sitting in my pocket at all times. Using headphones more often has acclimated me to the feeling of having them on my ears.

Wondering if I should get over-ear instead of on-ear headphones next for added comfort. I don't really care too much about noise cancelling because I actually kinda want to be aware of ambient noise so that I don't walk under a giant piano or in front of an arrow target or some shit. If I'm at home, I'm using speakers instead of my headphones, anyway.

Even when I opted for earphones, I've always hated those in-canal ones (who wants to stick something up their ear and constantly have to clean the wax off of it?) or the ones that wrap around your ear (they are less likely to fall off then the other ones, but they look fucking dorky, and I am NOT a dork).

I'm not an audiophile, but in my opinion I've never used earbuds that come close to the fidelity of good headphones

Sennheiser headphones in the house, and earphones when I'm out running.

Where is my amazon voucher for answering your survey?

Always headphones. I'd also say: don't rule out noise-cancelling ones unless you've already tried them. You can still hear all the higher frequencies just fine, they're just very good at removing the low-end rumble of cars, trains, machinery, etc, which in turn allows you to listen to music at a lower volume (good for your hearing). I can still tell there's a bus coming, it just sounds like a bus after a high-pass filter.

How much do you want to spend? Do you want wireless headphones? I'm a headphone geek, I go to headphone shows, lol.

if i'm at home or at work or whatever it is nearly always through speakers

only headphones I really have anymore are studio monitor pairs, for casual listening & going on walks & whatnot I got a pair of Bose wireless that are great aside from the actual buds themselves not always wanting to stay in, but you can get a pair of more customizable replacement pads or whatev for that

I love speakers as well but a high end pair of headphones and amp is pure audio bliss

If you want to spend around 100 bucks, get Grados and you’ll never regret it.

Yep, the SR80s are the best bang for the buck under $300, unless you want portability and wireless, then it's a different story.

Exactly. The SR80s have been my primary pair for about 20 years (same pair).

I had cable issues on mine, so eventually moved on. Still are an incredible value.

same.

or use a speaker if i'm lifting or running in the basement, taking a shower, or just doing dishes and junk. but if i come home wearing headphones or earbuds, i'll leave them in while i do other chores.

"over-ear instead of on-ear headphones"...huh?

the thing with cabled stuff is if i bend down at say CVS and go to stand back up, they usually get stuck under my knee which either pulls them out or is just a nuisance but i got little ear holes too. so i've lost ear buds while bike riding and dropped one in the street just the other day. just gotta shove them suckers in so hard.

i tied a lil speaker to my bike because tim thinks it's dangerous for me to ride with headphones. but riding a bike in general in chicago is dangerous

I'd usually use earphones when outside, walking somewhere or whatever, but last year I developed an ear infection and I blame the earphones. Not totally certain it was related to the earphones but it was no fun being deaf in one ear for two or three weeks so that put me off wearing them.

My JBL Live 460NCs were under warranty when they stopped working, so I was seeing what else there was to get in their price range so I could decide on whether I'd just get the same JBLs again or get something different.

Ended up getting the Anker Soundcore Space Ones. Over-ear is definitely more comfortable than on-ear. My ear is not discerning enough to tell which has better audio. The app for the Soundcores also actually works, unlike the JBL app, which would fail to sense my headphones even when they were connected and playing audio. But the SoundCores do feel lighter and flimsier than the JBLs, so I'm hoping they don't break or anything.

All headphones are awful for your ears.

Only listen to music in rooms, out of speakers. Let the music vibrate and transforms your surroundings.

Arrange your life around being able to do this.

The house i'm moving into is very old and noisy so i'll just cancel that then

I'm making the effort of isolating the shit out of the floor though, since my downstairs neighbour and the previous tennant had a war going on

I mean, this is just incorrect. And I love speakers. I have electrostats and monoblock amps. But headphones can be wonderful. You do have to be careful to not damage your hearing, but still.

There was old insulation (isolation? sorry I just like joy division) material, foam, but very worn, which I replaced with felt floor insulation with a friend which hopefully will do the trick. now If just my cat will shut its loud mouth.
