The NHL PLAYOFFS vs. the NBA PLAYOFFS

The biggest problem with the NBA Playoffs is the first round or even first two rounds sometimes. It's like can we just get this jerk off session over with and fast-forward to Dallas-San Antonio and Detroit-Miami which will likely decide the respective conferences (though Dallas-SA would be second round this year).

On the other hand, the NHL first two rounds are fucking awesome and unpredictable. All 4 series that have gone 2 games are tied at 1 right now. The 7-seeds have done better than the 2 seeds over the past decade, which is amazing and completely opposite from the NBA. The problem though is that you often end up with shitty Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Finals. Anyone remember Minnesota and Anaheim's Western Conference Finals in 2003? The Wings-Canes Stanley Cup Finals in 2002? I didn't think so.

Meanwhile, the NBA Conference and Overall Finals are usually awesome and involve the top teams.

But what the NHL has that the NBA can't even compare to is the Sudden Death Overtime. The best thing in American team sports.

Overall, I probably like the NHL Playoffs more but since OLN will have all the games this year, I'll be watching a lot more NBA Playoffs.

your assesment of the nba playoffs is not always true. This year that may be the case but sometimes there are some close first round matchups. and you may not be interested in them but most of the eastern conference first round series are pretty much wide open. I think overall the nba is wide open all across the board this year.

historically though only 3 7-seeds and 2 8-seeds have ever won first round series. that's in 20 years of this format.

I don't know if those numbers are right but if they are, the Habs have one of each in their last 2 playoffs appearances.

in the nba the 7-seeds never win.

nbc had some stat on saturday indicating that in the nhl, the 7-seeds had won like 12 of the last 22 series which is insane.

the nba fucked up by giving the 3 division winners 1-3 seeds, hopefully they change that next year. and the first round is way too long time wise.

aside from being Canadian, the 9 million time-outs in the NBA automatically make NHL playoffs better.

"Ohhh, they only have a 20 second time out! But they still have the 50 second, 40 second, one minute, one half minute, 3 minute, 5 second, 91.5 second, and 15 minute time outs to go. Its getting TENSE!"

Goddamn, NBA has no flow whatsoever. Ugh.
