Default Billy past his prime?

Let's be honest...the last decent album he put out was in 2005 (and by decent I mean creative and original). Is anyone really going to sit around for a year and wait for him to put out a few "psychedlic" tracks through smashingpumpkins.com?

Zwan live, by the way, served its purpose...MSTOS was a complete waste of time...

yeah if 'prime' is the operative word here let's try years like 1998, 1999, 2000, not the 'well i guess it's decent' era of 2001-2005

It's too soon to say. Billy goes through bad periods and good periods. After 4 brilliant albums he put out the very dissapointing Machina and Zwan. Then he puts out the Future Embrace which is the most interesting thing he had done in 7 years. I think he's just going through one of his bad periods.

I want to say that it seems like most of the time artists grow and change as a person and go and do new and different things but it seems like Corgan is just getting more and more bitter, cynical and selfish as years pass so there's really no growth, just a stagnant pond and a lot of anger that he's not selling 14 million records and headlining stadium shows.

i'm not entirely sure yet. i'll judge by his next "batch" of songs.. which is hopefully just an album.

That next batch of songs SHOULD be good if Song For a Son and As Rome Burns and 99 Floors are any indication of what is to come but we all know what happens to songs that get recorded.

maybe livesmashingpumpkins.com is the new recorded medium?

sounds like it was something we asked for, and now we finally got!
i'm pleased.

I don't think he's past his prime. Some of the recent songs are as good as anything he has done before. I think maybe he makes some wrong choices in terms of tracklisting etc, but I think he's right when he said in the recent Q101 interview. Judge in 4-5 years. I think by then they'll be a wealth of amazing songs.

I don't believe he will ever top the period that ranges from SD-PI-MCIS-TAFH-ADORE-ADORE TOUR!

but this is the greatest stretch of music by any artist ever IMO.

He still has so much to offer and many songs he has written this year have been awesome.

I don't listen to SD anymore. But I did listen to Zeitgeist the other night. I skip 2 or 3 songs but I do the same thing when I listen to SD. I don't know if it means i'm tired of the old or happy with the new.

Obviously MCIS Era was his prime. Adore was good but not AS good.

Recent material is definitely NOT his prime, so I guess he's past it. Doesn't mean it's bad.

BTW - STOP JUDGING ZWAN BY MSOTS!!! That was one of his best musical periods; there just isn't an amazing album to remember it by.

GLOW's production didn't suck too bad. I am very optimistic about their next release.
