Lightbulb 5 Ways The Internet Convinced Me To Not Vote

If he hasn't read this yet, I'm certain Trots will appreciate it. #3 on this list reminds me a lot of the rhetoric scottytheoneand always seems to spew on this board:

So according to that photo, Mitt Romney strong-armed his way into our government, then giggled as he took jobs from innocent people, then used that extremely successful political tactic to work his way up to running for president of the United States.
yes that's exactly what happened but what he wants is to make you forget about what he did at bain capital and not make it an issue which you are now enabling in your "MAGICAL PIMP BUS" column on CRACKED. I mean lets not even just start with the factual innacuracy that he "strong-armed" his way into "our" government and then fired everyone, one goes before the other. It wasn't a big deal in 02 when he won governor because we were all fapping endlessly into the doomed housing market. now it is a big deal because people are starting to figure out that closing businesses, killing jobs and the economy failing makes certain parasites shit fucking tons of money.

and how come none of these reasons is "an idiot's vote has the same value as someone making an informed decision" or "bush v. gore made me realize the whole thing is a fucking sham" or "special interest groups and corporations spend millions upon millions of dollars to misinform everyone and create the very memes and commercials to create the very attitudes I'm decrying on my Magical Pimp Bus column on CRACKED."

The point the author is trying to make is how idiotic and how woefully oversimplified these stupid political image macros are and how people buy into the garbage hook line and sinker because it just validates their rudimentary and/or skewed political beliefs while distracting people from real issues about the candidates themselves or political stances. You yourself in the past have said these political image macros are stupid, and the author agrees with you on this point. Your problem with the article seems to be, in part, that even just talking about them, even if it's in a critical light, is counter-productive and only serves to validate their existence, and they should be ignored, not discussed.

Regardless, the author raises some valid points, chief among them the whole "voting only to vote against someone" and the "red-team-versus-blue-team" mentality.

actually some of those memes are pretty solid and it's not a red team blue team voting against someone thing when you have a candidate who bashes obamacare WHEN HE FUCKING CREATED IT

Yeah, because only Republicans bring religion into political debates.

Dude, you're better than this.

basically what's going on here is political apathy brought on by partisan bickering, but it seems that because of partisan bickering you've excused yourself from actually knowing things

No, I don't. I also don't think Democrats never bring up religion when they talk politics. Just because it's skewed one way doesn't mean the other side isn't fucking guilty of it.

eventually you're going to have to accept the fact that what the republican party does is much more damaging to democracy and the ideals of "freedom" than anything the democrats do and simply saying that doesn't mean i'm "taking sides" i'm just recognizing fuck-crazy shitbags when they stand up and talk about how women won't get pregnant after rape if god wills it

i may not believe in voting but i certainly don't believe in political apathy and not recognizing hateful idiotic shitheads spewing billions of gallons of waste out of their mouth and then super geniuses like you and this airhead on cracked.com in his magical pimp bus going "wah wah they all do it" instead of recognizing that the biggest liars and the biggest hatemongers and the biggest fearmongers are always, always, always aligned to the right

it also reminds me of the best quote from the hbo television program "the wire"

"A lie isn't a side of the story it's a fucking lie."

Yes, I'm not happy with the Republican party and its constituents in its present form, but I've yet to see an alternative to them that isn't a group of special-interest-bankrolled big-business whores who make empty promises, or aren't people who are even more batshit crazy than the Republicans. Lies are lies, even if certain lies are lies that we like less than others.

If you're going to call out the Republican party for being bugshit nuts, believe me, I will be the first person cheering you on. But don't kid yourself into thinking the other side doesn't deserve it too. It just means one side might deserve it a little more.

I'm not politically apathetic. I'm just sick of this "lesser of (insert amount) evils" nonsense. And that's why I'm seriously considering abstaining from this years election (aside from a few exceptions, most of which concern local matters).

No, I don't think you are at all. You've been as critical as anyone on this board about the Democrats.

all this proves is that you can't make hard decisions. there are people whose lives are actually affected by the issues. Just because you get to sit above the fray doesn't mean the candidates are the same. Guess what, if you get pregnant and need an abortion, the man in the oval office does matter. grow a pair of balls, get over your unrealistic idealism, and cast a vote to help the greatest number of people.
