It is nice. How many guitars you have in the band? Maybe I'd try to ******* some guitar already during the first verse, not just the lonely bass line, and in the second verse there would be actually two guitars playing? Regarding the song name - I am starting to suspect you really want to be a sailor. Do you want to be a sound sailor? |

Hello. I used to post here a few years ago and was listening to some suff in this thread and thought I'd post my own. This is me and my buddy Nelson in the studio, and it's the first song on our newest album.
Also, I advise you to smoke them if you've got them, you know. I will post comments on other recordings here when I have a moment. Also, sleeper, check your PMs. http://rapidshare.com/files/34914337/01_Red.m4a.html |

thanks for the review ********** (for mome raths). what did you mean though by "the guitar being out of place"? is that to say that you felt the guitar on pebble hill march didn't suit the song, or that the whole song felt out of place with the other songs?

intention: pretty. kinda wish it developed more, but it's still cool. feels more like a "middle of album" track to me. tom waits for no man: love all the dissonance in the guitar parts. some of the vocal parts sound a bit unsure of themselves, but otherwise very nice. meditation on departure: really like part 1, wish it were longer; the "song" portion of this doesn't really gel with it though. this is going to sound worse than i intend but it's kinda open-mic-nighty, if you know what i mean. yaphet kotto smile: enjoyed the subdued first two minutes, good atmospherics. but the strummier this got the less i was into it. + | -: reminds me a bit of that "mad world" cover from donnie darko. the ending coda seems a bit unfocused, especially the transition into it. did you record it separately? sigil: wants a band backing it. maybe a little repetitive; i think that's just the lack of arrangement though. bakers dozen: liked this one, particularly the clarinet, lead guitar and the little triplety descending lines where you pair the guitar and vocals. as a general rule i don't like lyrics about people drinking wine, nothing personal. django goes to college: this is cool — improvised? i actually grinned when the bass and the drums took off — wasn't expecting that at all. on the whole, neat ideas but i think it's a bit long. all the drum stuff in the middle third was a bit much for me. undone: excellent song. clear nick drake influence. got any more like this? the language of whores and threes: good, but the full-voice singing and the restrained piano clash something terrible. i can't help but wonder if it would have more emotional impact if the singing was reined in quite a bit. otherwise, it carries itself over five and a half minutes and that isn't easy to do, so well done. evolution is evolving: lol on the whole, not sure that this works as an album — i didn't feel like there was much of a flow between tracks — but mainly i enjoyed the individual songs. "tom waits" and "undone" are clear standouts. (and the first 1:20 of "meditation") |
