I love my crockpot but definitely cook mostly meat dishes in it. I still am more of a stove top cook, because I constantly adjust seasoning and don't trust the amounts suggested in recipes

I also have a pressure cooker which I've used like 5 times and could totally live without

To the extent that these things are like slow cookers, I hate them. Meals really thrive on multiple textures.

I’m jealous of people who have the patience and interest to cook delicious meals. I love good food but I hate kitchen time so much

Is there a difference between crockpot and slow cooker? I use the terms interchangeably for the same piece of equipment

I thought that Crock-Pot was a brand of slow cookers and pressure cookers.

yes, it's a brand name. crock pot and slow cooker is the same thing. But pressure cookers are a different contraption altogether

Yes, slow cookers and pressure cookers are different, but I believe Crock-Pot sells both.

A brief look suggested that crockpots have more settings or something to that effect – possibly meaning they can do everything slow cookers can but maybe not so much vice versa? The research phase was less than extensive.

You People need to stop converting brand names into nouns.

There are very few words even left in the English\latin languages that hadn't been copped to death for use as some brand or product name

Companies actually try to prevent their brand names from becoming genericized trademarks because it gives them less ability to exercise exclusive rights to their name when everyone is allowed to use them for generic products.

Bayer isn't too jazzed that they can't sue the store brand of acetylsalicylic acid for printing "Aspirin" on its label anymore.

I just get the generic CVS brand of diacetylmorphine. Switched over when Heroin replaced its formula with New Heroin. I hear they're bringing back the old formula as "Heroin Classic," but I'll be sticking with generic, prices being what they are these days.

Generic is never as good, I don't care how you try to convince me. I can't be having clumping when I need dissolving.

A slow-cooker can be a Dutch Oven, but personally I've only heard slow-cooker referring to a crockpot. That's probably regional, because r/slowcooking also inc-ludes dutch oven recipes.

Feeling very guilty because I didn't get either of my kids up to go do my oldest's gymnastics class this morning. I've had a cold this week, I'm extremely nauseous, and it's rainy and chilly outside. I can't deal with a 2 hour commitment, or the breakfast craziness beforehand. I need a slow morning and with early weekend activities I never get one. I probably shouldn't have watched TV after working last night, either. Adequate sleep might have made a busy morning possible. Not sure why I'm crying about it here, but I am not going to tarnish my overly cute and positive Facebook page with feeling lazy, weak, and guilty about it.

I've been an emotional wreck from the world events, on top of it. A cup of coffee by myself, while neglecting responsibilities that I paid for, is just what I needed this Saturday.

Especially with the events this week, just hug your kids and be grateful, and don't waste a single second feeling bad about the gym class. You turned your life around instantaneously when your firstborn arrived and never looked back. You're allowed a very generous number of days to not show up to planned activties because you have shit to process and need a small window of down time

You're doing awesome, just keep it up. Glad you enjoyed your coffee!

My parenting fail of the year is spending a whole year engaging with coaching staff from a university about my kid joining their team without verifying our family contribution

I didn't realize how easy and common this was, until other universities started engaging and offerd to do an early financial read straight away

There is a $30k/year USD difference in financial aid/parent contribution between the highest and lowest. The highest is from the university we've had zoom calls for over a year, and who we had lunch with in Paris while we were at the U19 world champs, and who my kid has committed to (his decision)

I just feel like such a colossal idiot for not asking

You can't ask what you don't know. Is his school preference still going to be a possibility? The cost of university is beyond unreasonable, especially the schools he is looking at. I'm so far removed from the sports world that I'm not even 100% sure I understand what you're saying.

I also had a major fail regarding school. There is a decent elementary school about a mile from my house, and I naturally assumed we'd be zoned to go there. Nope! The school feeder zones are cut into bizarre shapes (a la gerrymandering) and mine are zoned for a farther school which has a MUCH worse rating. I need to consider moving again, it's actually that bad. The private school climate is very uh, incompatible both financially and socially with who we are. I would probably do a private school in Baltimore, though.

We’re waiting to hear from the school. If they’re being honest, he’ll receive a scholarship that makes tuition affordable for us (just)

If they’re being dishonest, who knows what will happen

I hate being this cynical. I have trust issues

Gosh the school situation sounds bad. That exact thing happened to us - ultimately, we moved.

This will be the first and last time you make a mistake with school zones - now you are part of the school zone obsession club, welcome, I wish I could make you a coffee

aren't you in frederick? can't imagine any school there could be *that* bad. i went to schools in montgomery county that scored bad on paper but they were fine. what do the locals say? can you visit campus?

we only have one ES/Middle school in the north half of our county and I've heard it's nice. Gotta find a way to send him the next county over for HS tho because the town it's in is fuckin' wack. driving thru feels like you're in some rural poverty porn documentary.

I've been there, probably too many times, and it is not dangerous (it's also an elementary school), but it is not academically up to par. By a devastating amount.

You have plenty of time before high school to plan something.

A friend of mine worked at the public high school in Frederick, MD. When her trans son, a freshman at the time, was being mercilessly bullied by students and picked on by several teachers, she complained to the school board. The School Board promptly fired her.

She ended up unemployed for quite a while. Then worked as a staffer for the AFL-CIO in DC for a couple of years. When her kid finally graduated she moved with her wife to Iceland, and now lives in Húsavík, Iceland.

It was awful. She and her son had parents attacking them online on social media for years, and her kid basically has PTSD.
