pah, Connerly hairsplitting again, I am ranking MY FAVORITE albums anyway, not the "best" ones.

shit, and it was me who renamed this thread to "best of." I will lead myself to the slaughter house.

Unless the new Earl is some real fire my top ten is probably locked in:

1. Low - Double Negative
2. Deafheaven - Ordinary Corrupt Human Love
3. Foxing - Nearer My God
4. The Body - I Have Fought Against It, But I Can't Any Longer
5. Messa - Feast For Water
6. Daughters - You Won't Get What You Want
7. Cult Leader - A Patient Man
8. Soccer Mommy - Clean
9. Birds In Row - We Already Lost The World
10. Thou - Magus

The Sciences was good but both Messa and Thou murdered Sleep in the doom riffs department this year

Alcest and Deafheaven are both so good, and not that similar.

the ones in my list just earlier in the thread is the place to start for both I would say. The last two minutes of this track bang so incredibly hard:

groundbreaking update, my favorite 10 changed since I got to hear two of these albums as well now. Young Fathers went straight into my favorite 10 (not best albums, no, but I loved their 2 previous albums and I am falling for this, too.)

And Daughters.
who wants to take a dump on me about people listening to Daughters and praising this new album who have never even heard of the band before? I am one of those now.

Somehow I heard the new album 3 times in a row tonight, because uuh... it trapped me and I couldn't get out, I guess. I have absolutely no idea what this is or what it did to my ears and head. I could move in and live in this album for a while. (how poetic!)

I like it, it's probably just...too long? a lot of the themes repeat in slightly different forms throughout the album, which of course happens a lot with OST's, see also the Jonny Greenwood album, but sometimes they have too little substance to justify their existence imho. still, mostly good. some great songs. sounds like radiohead a bit. is this guy affiliated with them somehow?

this might be my top 14 of the year but I suspect things will change

life is change, isn't it?
  1. Jonny Greenwood - the phantom thread ost
  2. low - double negative
  3. no babies - someone to watch over me
  4. daughters - you won't get what you want
  5. mount eerie - now only
  6. ovlov - tru
  7. nine inch nails - bad witch
  8. closer - all this will be
  9. animal collective - tangerine reef
  10. silent front - third
  11. mike neaves - bluntworld
  12. protomartyr - consolation
  13. bloke music - mechanics
  14. converge - beautiful ruin

last 5 ones are all ep's but who cares about the difference

add to that:

Orchestra del Tiempo Perdido - Stille
Mark Kozelek - s/t
Aphex Twin - Collapse
Fred Cracklin - Looming Spook
maybe Breeders - All Nerve and Shame - Songs of Praise too

this is gonna be a top 20 or more
