oh, yeah, I also found out that A Place To Bury Strangers will be playing on Friday (the 10th) at this small little joint, so I'll end up going to that because I am covering for someone on the day shift on Friday, so I'll have the night off! Perfect timing!

yea sure thing. i really dig this band. i'm makign the drive up to beautiful madison WI just to see them, because i already have tix for Roots & methodman/redman the night before when they play metro. worked out nicely.

i've been fortunate enough to see them headline 4 out of the 5 times i have seen them. who they have been opening for?

the darkroom lolla aftershow in 2006 was probably the best one so far, followed by the metro midnight show in may of 06, then the rest. i would have dug in-the-round more, but the venue i saw them at sucked for that setup.

Yesterday I saw some local Portland bands at a house venue called Cloud City, used to be called Narnia. Radar Skinny, Big Spender, and one band name I forget, I think it was Randall something, but they said it was probably their last show. Good bands though, if anyone ever has a chance to see them, they're all pretty freewheeling and indie and rocking.

Recent and upcoming shows:

9/8: Spiritualized @ Metro (was great, way better than Pitchfork)
9/12: Dandy Warhols @ Vic (far exceeded all expecations, one of the most fun shows of the year)
9/20: Monotonix, Black Mountain @ Hideout Block Party (awesome)
10/9: Broken Social Scene @ Vic (fun as always)
10/10: Stereolab @ Vic (totally blew me away -- GO SEE THEM!!)

10/12: Fleet Foxes @ Metro (they have a few pretty nice songs, but the show was so short and weak, with 5 mins of banter between the lead singer and the lame audience between every song)
10/16: Citay @ Hideout (missed this sadly, ugh)
10/17: Minus the Bear @ Vic or Alejando Escovedo @ Park West
10/24: Trey Anastasio @ Electric Factory, Philly
10/25: Trey Anastasio @ The National, Richmond, VA
10/26: David Byrne @ Civic Opera House, Chicago
10/28: Yeasayer @ Bottom Lounge
10/29 or 10/30: Coheed & Cambria @ Riviera
10/31: KING KHAN @ Bottom Lounge (the July show was out of control -- go to this show!) OR Pumpkins in Columbus

11/1: Pumpkins, Cleveland
11/2: Dungen @ Bottom Lounge (supposed to be very psychedelic... been wanting to see them)
11/18-19: Pumpkins @ Chicago Theatre
11/21-22: Pumpkins @ Auditorium Theatre
11/29: Boris @ Empty Bottle
12/9: Neil Young @ Allstate Arena

Yesterday my brother and I went to an A Silver Mt Zion gig. Holy fuck!
My ears are still ringing, but I didn't dare to use earplugs - the high-pitched violin screams were just too awesome.
Plus, I got to EPs on vinyl, and my discography is now complete.

So one of my friends was the private caterer of Amanda Palmer (apple strudel ftw) tonight, and I got (of course) backstage and to talk to her. What a beautiful, talented, awesome woman.

Stone Temple Pilots
The Mars Volta
Either REM or Butthole Surfers
TV on the Radio
...who knows what else...the lineup's not great this year.

Today (10/25) I saw Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, and Against Me. I mainly went to the show to hang out with friends, Against Me kind of sucks, Ted Leo is alright sometimes, definitely like his performance mannerisms. Had never heard much of either until tonight.

I went to a Ted Leo show last year with some friends not knowing any of his music and I had a pretty good time.

i'm surprised you caught that. i thought no one care.

I despise Annie Leibovitz and her soulless photographs. She has a show in London at the moment I've been invited to, but I don't think I will bother.
