Is this a hypothetical question? Unless you've acquired 10000+ posts here via a friend luring you to the gen board...
Every era has a distinctly different sound, so I suppose I'd suggest you sample a few from each period to decide which vibe resonates with you the most. I'd also probably at least initially base my suggestions broadly on the types of genres and/or other artists you enjoy currently. Then again, there are so many sounds that I couldn't have imagined liking if I had never randomly heard them and limited myself to only the music from "know you like" genres.
