I feel like getting a spot in the HoF is actually an insult. I'd much rather be mentioned with the bands that didn't get in for the most part. It's almost a sign that you've become safe enough for the masses to accept you

VU is the exception though

Well it is called the hall of fame

So, the Hall really does have a lot to do with mainstream success... Whether some purist fans like it or not.

It is what it is, it's not for everyone. But it's still a tremendous honor for a lot of artists.

those are all influential artists in their own rights, but most of em were kind of cult bands.

Im thinking since the pistols turned down the award maybe they figure they shouldn't bother with Punk bands except if they're commercial. Biafra would likely turn it down. Rollins could go either way...

Pistols were commercial and mainstream in a way that Biafra and Rolins aren't though.

I'm not sure if Lou Reed would even accept it and show up if he were still around.

yea probably. I'd like to think he wouldn't show up to be celebrated like this, not the way these fame hall things are now, but then again... I'm thinking of a young Lou Reed.

wasn't that the same year Corgan did the honors for Pinky Floyd?
I remember that year as a rather big deal, first VU concert in the US in 20 years or something like that.

Anyone who thinks RnRHoF has the authority to decide which artists are relevant is a mindless zombie drone

I can't be bothered looking it up but off the top of my head I'd guess that VU were 1993 and PF were 1996

I love how Google just straight out answers your question sometimes. You don't even have to click a link.
