In that she is a conservator who presumably likes art, I guess that's a hypothesis? I figured maybe it had to do with that story about his grandmother seeing Lillian Gish, as a kid? Like he looked into that whole world and liked what he saw? I dunno man, that's why I want to hear it from him. And also what I have in my pocket.

Actually I just thought of another one

Did he ever consider having different people sing certain songs on Atum

Like some songs are supposed to be June sending messages to Shiny, or robots celebrating (???) or the government talking or whatever, right? So did he ever think like "I should have this female vocalist do all the songs from June's POV and the Sugar Ray guy could play a hacker" and so on

I guess I'm interested in his thoughts on this for SP in general — James aside, would an SP song an SP song if Billy weren't singing it — but particularly for Atum it seems like it would have made sense to do it up in a grander, full-cast performance thing

Do you seriously think he could tolerate someone else singing his amazing music. He almost mixed Rob Smith entirely out of that bee gees song. Cause you know, Smith is better than him and everyone knows it.

I strongly suspect the answer is no, of course, but it seems like this rock opera was a uniquely appropriate opportunity for him to let other voices take the lead

The second, sub-question I guess is where is the line for him with what counts as a Pumpkins song, if he writes and plays it but someone else sings it, is that still The Smashing Pumpkins or some nebulous other thing — that I don't have a feeling for one way or another

I agree it would make sense to use guest singers for different characters. Maybe he is singing differently for each character? It's hard to tell and the nonsense lyrics don't help.
