No. Mike loved being in the band. He idolized billy. He and Nicole were really proud of that Album. I have talked to both of them about it. They are/were very earnest and in Mike's case he was just young and naive.

Nicole saw Mike like he was a little brother or something. She has kept in touch with him. The two of them were close.

When Oceania didn't sell Billy seemed to blame them, just like he always has with every band mate and record/ band he's been in.

Nicole is a pro and a nice person. You won't ever hear her say much publicly even if there was no NDA. She just isn't that type of person. I know it must have been hard for her though, cause at the end was when bill was ranting transphobic slurs and and threatening to kill Devi on Twitter.

There's a lot to be said for what Mike and Nicole brought to the band. I that of the grip of shows I saw between 2007 and 2018, the one in 2011 that I saw in Las Vegas was the one that had the most energy. Setlist was solid and very ballsy - a LONG set before any semblance of a single, Cherub Rock. Remember lots of Vegas people were looking confused while I was just stoked on what was happening.

Agree with a few comments - I'm no drummer. To me, he sounds well enough good. No "whoa!" moments like I get with Jimmy, but I do agree that I enjoyed his playing more than the era with Wilk, who just didn't fit.

I wonder how much at the end of the day Mike banked from the tour and the work with the band. If nothing else, he got the experience to travel the world and play some amazing places and hang out with Nicole and Jeff, who I'm sure were both legitimately cool to him.

On the Nicole front, I would take her all day every day over Bates. Sure it's strange that he kept picking women to play bass, but it's just part of the SP dynamic. And she was great, and seemed to just fit naturally.

End of what? I'm confused. The slurs to Devi Ever were in 2011, the Oceania cruise was 2012, Nicole left the band in 2014.

I'm pretty sure that Mike Byrne's stint with SP is simply the midlife crisis result of Billy carrying out his deep desire to have a son. See Song for a Son. Now that he's had a kid he's actually mellowed out and somewhat grounded.

There's zero excuse for Bill's treatment of Mike. To take what is essentially a kid and expose him to the brutal rigors of touring, only to dump his ass and then shit talk him is maybe Bobo's biggest blunder. Like, what did he gain by shitting on a kid who isn't a professional in the industry and will likely never work again because of it?

Would a simple "we decided to part ways but I wish him the best" have been too hard?
