coupled with the total condescending rudeness i received this morning via skype (even though she sits behind me) which prompted the decision, i really wonder if she actually has any experience being a supervisor

but you know, call centers do generally reward evil

I'd support the PhD too, even more so if you want to teach, but it may be difficult for admissions to see you as super committed to academia since you've been out of school for so long. Though my understanding is that schools normally offer some kind of scholarship to doctorate students (a lot more than to masters), so that may be something to consider. Do you know where you're applying?

i am applying probably to Texas, Texas State and as a last resort to the University of Texas at San Antonio which was where i studied as an undergrad

i may expand this to U of Houston and etc in time, it may be beneficial to get away from my home town of Austin for a little bit, hope the bubble pops so it goes back to the lame little town that thinks stevie ray vaughn is someone that's worth building a statue for

the important thing is that he gives up on the idea without trying on the basis of the supposition of an anonymous person on the internet

Tell everyone you know you are looking for a job and ask if they know a place they should apply.

Find a head hunter or ask all your friends if they have one.

You bring up a valid point. My job sucks and I hate nearly everything about it but atleast I can do it well. I look and search classifieds and theres more complex and complicated jobs paying LESS than the shit I do now.

I'm a fellow with no college or University experience so I've pretty much painted myself in a corner, working dead-end, shit jobs. It sucks, and I'm only getting older.

I've been working on gambling on sports in a somewhat "proffesional" manner. It's actually been going alright... thus far anyways.

hahaha that's actually what my hiring supervisor did after quitting, he bets on UFC fights

what do you do fuzz? i mean, there's one thing about hating work but it's another when you feel like work is shitty because management is horrible and the actual service you provide is absolutely shit and the fact that management is so terrible actually is impacting average, everyday people when they fuck up and ruin their monthly income because the whole program is about as planned as prom night conception

I work at a big, corporate chain store, warehouse unloading stock and getting it ready for the stockers. It's not so bad now. But I used to be the guy stocking the shit and it was like an adult fucking version of High School. It still sucks , but not as bad as it used to. but what can you do? I don't really have much to offer.

fuzzy, look into factory warehouse stuff. it pays better and it's basically the same kind of thing.

i did temp work in the warehouse for a manufacturer of replacement joints, and it seemed people were pretty well paid.

the adult version of high school is generally what real life is like. i mean we're all stupid monkeys.

hey at least you're not partially responsible for junk mail

haha true.

Didn't you mention at some point that you were doing telemarketing?

That's the kind of shit that would actually be right up my alley. I think I'd have fun with it just using it as kind of an "acting" gig to fuck around at. And you get more cash if you recruit people or whatever too right?

But I can definitely see how it would suck ass if I was actually doing it every day.

Those sorta jobs are always hiring though. If it came down to a worst-case scenario I'm sure you could just get aboard a different company doing the same shit.

Yeah man, I've looked into other warhouse gigs, and they're all substantially more difficult and usually pay around the same amount or just a buck more per hour. I don't figure it's worth all the extra effort.

But I feel ya man. Theres gotta be more to life than this, eh? We only live once and we're sacrificing most of our time working dead end jobs just in order to survive and have enough money to have some fun for several hours a week. It's bunk.

by the way i would not neglect to inspect what benefits that you would have at a factory warehouse

more likely you would have things called "holidays" and "weekends" which are alien to retail

trust me doing something more difficult for not as much money when you get better benefits, like paid holidays and regular weekends is definitely worth it

i would not have stuck with this job as long as i have if it wasn't 9-6 M-F with paid holidays and weekends

even though everyone above me would be on salary and work through weekends

OOH ~ THAT'S A MOTIVATOR

Don't you guys have career aspirations? I'm not trying to be mean, just saying that work is shitty unless you love what you do.
