irish were discriminated against when they first came to the u.s. and they did build solidarity with mexicans and black people and labor movements. but then they got to be considered white by english-americans and then turned. that bag is dumb, but an irish person might wear it to portray an idea of how things used to be. and, by the way, being reminded of xenophobia (which that bag does) isnt xenophobic itself.

my father always told me he gave my brother an irish name (brian david) because they fought with mexico in the mexican-american war. and a number of people on his side of the family have reddish hair (i had more when i was a younger), greenish eyes (not me), and freckles (i have some on my cheeks).

but i dont know that i have any irish in me, for sure. german, yes. proud mexican-german. ow!

I have an Irish Catholic great grandmother, complete with the red hair and blue eyes (she's the reason one of my kids has blue eyes, because she and her son/my grandfather are the only people on either side with blue eyes so I have that recessive gene, apparently).

So I am 2 kinds of white-not-white, although I know absolutely nothing about Irish culture. She peaced out back to Ireland and left her sons here.

When that grandfather was fighting in WW2 he was captured, but the Nazis believed him when he said he was Irish and not Jewish, so he was sent to a regular POW camp and not a concentration camp, and later freed by US soldiers. So I'm only alive today because of red-haired genes!

Somehow I feel that antisemite mexicans like yo soy el mejor are the scum of the earth, an abomination of nature, manifest destiny of a futile, hopeless existence asking to be chased out of the world, driven into darkness, placed into solitary confinement for the rest of its damned days.
