I'm so sorry. His kindness really shined through those (tastefully) gruff edges. I will very much miss whatever interactions we've had over the last 10 years. I have always appreciated his openness to listen to all sides of an argument, and he always gave me the benefit of the doubt. I knew I was being intelligent and fair if we were ever in agreement, that's the kind of bar he set. I can't imagine what you're feeling....
