taking songs for granted/i wish billy played more piano

have you ever taken any sp songs for granted, just to one day realize how great they are? I've been listening to Farewell and Goodnight over and over the past couple of days. I don't know why, but I haven't listened to it in ages, and it was never really a favorite of mine. Suddenly though, I'm in love with it. And the part where all four of them start singing at once, it gives me chills. Also, it would be cool to hear Jimmy sing more; I kind of like his voice. And this song also makes me think about how much I love billy's songwriting on piano. I really think it would be cool if he'd start writing and performing more songs that utilize the keys. (not synths, just piano)

so have any of you 'rediscovered' a song like this?

rolmos 11-23-2007 03:28 PM

I rediscovered Egg, and haven't been able to get it off of my head in the last 3 days. I used to always skip over it, but now it's probably the only pre-gish song I've listened to in over 3 months.

skipgo 11-23-2007 03:30 PM

oh yeah, that's a good one. it's always been a favorite of mine :D

hcueva 11-23-2007 03:31 PM

Geez, Skipgo, your reflections are very deep.

How about you rediscover life outside of this message board?

skipgo have you heard chump.

Skradgee 11-23-2007 03:43 PM

I've been listening to Opal / Worship lately...mostly for Worship...a nice quiet lil' tune.

i love his piano songs. i used to fall asleep to blank page all the time when i was much younger. would listen to it night after night. and it soothed me to sleep

Galapogos was never a favorite of mine, I never purposly listened to it, but it was pleasent if it came on. But just recently I really got into it. I don't know why I wouldn't play this song at least once a day now. The guitar work is beautiful and the lyrics are amazing.

AnnMarie727 11-23-2007 03:47 PM

galapogos is enchantingly beautiful

i've rediscovered raindrops and sunshowers recently
it use to just sound like a wall of sound song, "start GO GO GO GO GO end"

but after focusing on the bass frequencies (not the bass instrument playing).... pretty fucking A+ song! top notch production. the mix of the low end keys, bass drum. WOW!

i mostly ignored this because the drumming sounded repetitive
and the bass was too bubbly

&
the high guitar notes (james playing) sounds really good
sounds like a keyboard attack, but the guitar resonates
the opposite of what i'm used to (guitar attack, keyboard resonates)

Wishing you were is one of Billy's best piano songs, felt like album material to me. I'm sure there was a video for this too, somewhere.

my favorite piano song by bc is probably once in a while. love it.

SlingeroGuitaro 11-23-2007 05:00 PM

once in a while is amazing. his voice is killer

probably my favorite song, too

skipgo 11-23-2007 05:04 PM

i know, i love that rumbly thing he's got going on. It's definitely in my top 10 favorites, ever.

skipgo 11-23-2007 05:07 PM

my kid has recently become a serious sp fan. Right now she's drawing a picture of billy, and talking about his voice being different on Once in a while (which i put on after writing about it). I think it's kind of cool that she noticed that. She also just asked me if i liked him best with long hair, short hair or no hair (i said short hair). She said she likes him best bald. I'm afraid I may have inadvertently brainwashed her.

reprise85 11-23-2007 05:11 PM

good job
