Iíve been to Paris once and stayed on the left bank. it smelled like piss and vomit

ilikeplanets 06-08-2023 11:03 AM

My entire life growing up, every time I lit a candle I would be assaulted with comments about the house burning down and now I'm traumatized and can't relax and enjoy them. I have a six piece set of fancy electric candles, but obviously it's not the same.

My younger critter's first word is "up!" She will be 1 next week.

TheAlter 06-08-2023 11:35 AM

"Up"? Shouldn't it be something like "mother", or "Ron DeSantis"? Anyway congrats!

ilikeplanets 06-08-2023 11:52 AM

My oldest's first word was "mama." This one doesn't want to be put down, so it makes sense! She can say "mama" but I think it's only babbling. Though maybe I'm not giving her enough credit and it's actually an entire dissertation.

i do think it smells richer but it's not throwing very much [learnt that word]

man, fuck yankee candle. my friend's mother took us along to one when we were tweens and it gave me the first headache i can remember. i had to ask to go lie in the car.

those candle scents are raunchy

I'm 100% legit shocked that the same dog-brain blobs that claim "perfume gives them a headache" will still burn the nastiest candles on earth.

And I'm saying this as someone who can't walk down the detergent aisle without my eyes watering.

slunken 06-08-2023 07:25 PM

That said I still buy a couple Christmas candles around the holidays because it's cozy. Kinda nostalgic for that synthetic pine.

yo soy el mejor 06-09-2023 12:36 AM

Or, I guess snug would be a more appropriate term.

Yeah, the first time I tried using a Yankee candle it gave me a wicked headache, amongst other aches, IFYOUKNOWWHATIMEAN!

FlamingGlobes 06-09-2023 02:55 PM

They didn't tell me you're supposed to take the glass lid off first.

FlamingGlobes 06-09-2023 02:57 PM

Oh, my bad, it wasn't actually an official Yankee Candle. It was this one:

Thanks, I'll try that next time. The 27 Rams I gave it before it finally got in there were a bit much, if I'm being honest.

 I'm completely unaware how they actually smell, it's just an ingrained tradition with Christmas for me. Like I don't even think about it. It's Christmas so gotta buy Christmas candles.

FlamingGlobes 06-09-2023 06:19 PM

Right, it's like how I associate the smell of a peach tart with the pangs of 27 rams.

vixnix 06-09-2023 10:01 PM

Every so often I succumb to the delusion that I am one of those moms/wives who lights scented candles at home. I have one scented candle that someone gave to me for Christmas in 2021. Iíve lit it less than ten times because each time the smell makes me feel ill. I think itís oil based as well. So Iím essentially filling my house with petrochemical fumes. I feel unsettled every time I light it, and when I canít take it any more, I snuff it out and then open the windows for fresh air

Joey Goldberg 06-09-2023 10:10 PM

at what point in this thread was a "pussy candle" joke made

vixnix 06-09-2023 10:14 PM

I looked it up and apparently itís soy. But I just donít like it

I like the look of your candle though Ram. I want to get one now, and see if itís any better

Disco King 06-09-2023 11:01 PM

I'm fond of diffusers, but essential oils are too expensive and also apparently a lot of them are not great to breathe in (I haven't done my research on which ones are good or bad). I just kinda default to lavender because citrus scents just smell like cleaning products and I'd rather just use incense for scents like patchouli or sandalwood and that stuff.
