the I'M REALLY FUCKING QUITTING SMOKING thread
I haven't smoked since my car on fire incident. almost 72 hours. i feel fine.
surely other people on the board have stopped recently? |
every week i don't smoke for a couple of days. but i still haven't quit.
|
You got this reprise, you're over one of the shittier parts.
|
I was thinking about quitting drugs this year, but that goal seems steep and not in line with what I want to achieve.
|
You'll quit eventually. You don't seem to have an uber-addictive personality, so I would enjoy it personally...
No pills for me though or coke/h etc, weed only and some psychedelics when my brain is healthier |
i've gotta make a drive in a bit, going to be so tempted to want to smoke but will not buy any
|
i haven't had a cigarette in thirty-six hours. and won't be having another.
|
straight edge 4 life
|
I've stopped smoking since the end of last september. So it's been 3 full months clean now, and I can tell you, once the initial "yeah I can do this" emotion disappears, it gets quite hard at times.
I just try to think that I'll eventually smoke again months later so I don't go crazy. It helps. |

Sup guys. Look how cool I am. :smoke:
|
The nicotine's outta you after the first 72 hours - so after that, it's all mental.
Kudos/Good luck to all of ya that are in the trenches... |
successful car trip was successful
|
Good luck. Think of how much money not smoking will save.
Oh and think about how shitty you won't smell all the time. Those I'd think could help the mental aspect. |

thanks sppunk |

that really gave me a craving :erm:
|
AHAHAHAHAHAHA!
|
Cold turkey is the only way to go if you are serious about quitting. If you aren't cranky and pissed off yet then you probably are fine
|
yeah i'm not cranky at all. i quit one time before cold turkey but that was only after smoking for like 6 months. this time it's been four years solid, at least.
i can feel it in my body, not really cravings but just that my homeostasis is off a bit. not a big deal atm |
I work for an ad agency that does Utah's anti-tobacco campaign... so I live/eat/breath anti-tobacco stuff for like 50 hours a week. Again, damn proud of all of you quitters.
Last April, we flew a woman out from North Carolina who is a laryngectomee - meaning that her voice box has been removed. Having been delegated the honor or driving her from presentation to presentation across the state, I was prepared for a hideously awkward week with her. She ended up being one of the coolest people I've met in my entire life - a 12 time cancer survivor with a hell of a story. We pro-shot one of her presentations, which can be seen here. Don't look at is as a "scare tactic" style thing - just watch it through the lens of a sweet 65 year old lady telling a story about how her cigarette addiction really ended up catching up to her. If you're dying for a smoke - throw some headphones on and watch this - it's only 20 minutes, and is quite entertaining to boot: http://truthagainsttobacco.com/terrie.php |
thanks man, i will watch it.
|
Never understood smoking. Don't mind the occasional cig when I'm drunk, but typically if I'm smoking something it better get me high. Mellow hookah ain't bad either
|
i know i said it here a thousand times but i haven't had a cigarette in about 3 or 4 months since i started using e-cigs.
i probably would smoke a real cigarette every now and then if i still went out to bars and stuff (been kind of a recluse lately). i've always been more of a social smoker, and busting out my e-cig would draw too many stares |
good. the next step is to stop raping.
|
i mean rapping.
|
they say will smith don't have to cuss to sell records. well i do so fuck him and fuck you too
|
touchy subject
|
I wish my brother wouold quit smoking, but he refuses
He smells god-awful all the time, and acts like a dick when he has withdrawls he blew $200 on it once |

now my laptop screen is covered in it |
still going strong. i had a dream about smoking and woke up thinking i had done it but i didn't. i have two cigs on my desk just sitting there, it gives me comfort or something. they are still there so i didn't smoke
how is everyone? |
i had one on the first.
last sober cigarette was the 24th. not beating myself over drunk cigarettes yet. and those are becoming a lot less frequent anyway. |
the thing with me is i keep my addiction at bay for at least the past 7 years, but it's pretty strongly rooted... i almost never smoke during the day, maybe one with a friend or something from a time to time. but at night i always smoke 1-2 cigs or joints.
it's been that way for years, with occasional withdrawls, but i always come back. it's most definitely not dependency on nicotine, or whatever - simply the ritual of closing the day with it. the occasional daytime cig is like what order_66 said - social smoking |
You guys give me hope that my brother will quit smoking one day.
Then I look outside and reality hits *sigh* |
|
LOL
|
still going good
day 10 whoever says cigs are harder to quit than opiates has never been addicted to opiates |
maybe you're an outlier
|
nine days and had to pass the first drunken test on friday. passed with flying carpets.
