nextdoor.com lets you know what's going on in your own neighborhood!
Missing bird? Anyone missing a pretty white bird with a yellow head? They are hanging out in the tree closest to the street in the Thomas St. Garden at Thomas and Washtenaw. |
This post got 249 comments and neighbors were serving each other aggression and sass all over the place!
Incessant Fireworks. Now fireworks are going off all hours during the day? It's bad enough my toddlers can't sleep during the night, but now they don't even get to sleep during their nap? This is unacceptable. It's been going on for over a month now and The police are unhelpful. There has to be something we can do, some petition we can sign to get our Alderman to do something about this. I can't live like this anymore. EDIT: I am only interested in constructive comments. Please do not be rude or snarky with your responses, suggesting if we don't like it we can leave. Clearly this year has been different than others and if the police are not going to do about it, I would like to work with my fellow community members to come up with constructive solutions to address the problem. |
OK EVERYONE - STOP WITH THE VITRIOL. I am one of the +/- 1% that have lived in this neighborhood for over 65 years and do not plan to move out. When we moved in West Town was a vibrant blue collar working-class neighborhood. Since then it has deteriorated and improved several times and is now on the rise again.
Most of the comments made make sense and need to be heard and appreciated. The crux of the matter is, "IS THERE A SOLUTION TO CONTROL OR STOP THE NOISE"? I offer the following: 1) get used to it by whatever means possible to you, as it is not going away; 2) continue to address these issues with your respective ward offices to keep this topic on their plates; 3) form community action groups to patrol your blocks to confront fireworks shooters and hope this stifles them, but be prepared for continued noise from other blocks not so patrolled. Engaging the (short-handed and over-taxed and under-appreciated) police who have far more important business to attend to, such as real violence, will not stop the noise in the long run. Certainly neither solutions will appease all, but getting at each others throats is also not the solution. Yes, total individual and community involvement needs to occur, but this takes time and effort and the participation of our elected city officials. The key word is elected. Am trying to be objective and helpful in this matter for which there are no easy answers or solutions. Please do not shoot the messenger :-) lol under-appreciated police |
thank you ‼️ I strongly agree with your statement. People whom just bought/Rented around here tend to forget that others have been living here for over DECADES worrying about other Bigger issues than just “FiReWoRks”. This neighborhood was built on mutual COMMUNICATION. Some people whom actually don’t or can’t have access to online forums to join a “coalition” online to see what y’all doing to abolish what this neighborhood tradition was for the past DECADES is making them uncomfortable. So please KARENS/KEVINS, lighten up‼️Welcome to AMERICA‼️

that's just it, it's not important enough. There are so many more pressing issues. She chose to move to an area where there's a lot of yearly summer fireworks - deal with it. It's only going to intensify when Illinois starts to legally sell them and cops don't care because, again, there's more pressing issues. I have yet to see her say she spoke to her neighbors in person. Maybe she should try being neighborly.

It’s not dangerous. You need to normalize your kids to a yearly event. Perhaps your own fear and agitation are making them a bit tweaky

I hear cities are a great place for silence.
