Billy Corgan performs acoustic + discusses the evolution of The Smashing Pumpkins
Setlist: Rhino WOCOAN CYR Tonight Beguiled |
Why are his kids on the stage??
|
"That's what we call smoke and mirrors. You focus on the kids and forget (...)".
He's voice is gone. It was recorded last Tuesday as far as I know, he was still recovering from the flu. |
Bringing his kids onstage all the time is absurd.
That massive unwanted attention will turn them into unsufferable attention-seeking narcissists. smh |
Some would say the de-evolution of The Smashing Pumpkins
|
it's no different than clowns on stage.
|
very cool set, shame it's not really worth listening cause his voice is so fucked

Then my wife independently was like wtf why does Billy have his kids onstage all the time (she follows the instagram or hobnob or tikblood or whatever the fuck) and i was like yeah isn’t it sort of worrisome for like their brians, and she was like no i mean it’s just who gives a shit i don’t want to see his kids Lol |
CYR sounds like complete garbage even acoustic.. and the transition to a GREAT all-time classic song like Tonight, Tonight really contrasts how shitty CYR is compared to Tonight

I can barely even listen to the classics with this current, uh, "approach" |
yeah, it's objectively foul to listen to
really don't understand how even SMs get thru it |
he's creating his own james with auggie jupp
|
look at all the incredibly functional parental experts here.

Shouldn’t have to caveat your music. Should just flow in thru and out u |

I don't think this is on the level of Billy becoming a pageant mom or trying to get Hollywood producers interested in casting his tykes or something; to me this is more like a guy who does "Take Your Kid to Work Day" and then for some reason just keeps doing it. It's weird. It's just weird. To me. |

it's certainly not an experience most families have, having a famous parent, so it's hard to say if it's a good or bad thing. would i do it myself? i dunno. i don't have kids. and I'm not famous. |
The guy is such a workaholic that it makes sense that probably some of the only time he has to see them overlaps with band stuff. This is a guy who went on a thirty day tour of the US when Auggie Joop was only a few months old.
|
Billy probably thinks he knows how to do it the RIGHT way, to avoid all the negative dangers.
riiiiiiight. a-huh.. |

I'm not calling social services on the guy, it's just not the route I would go if a series of extraordinarily unlikely things happened and I were suddenly in his position. I have a number of friends who don't show their kids in their public social media accounts, and I get that. The internet is forever! I don't think my friends who do post their kids are wrong, or that their kids are gonna be snorting coke at 12 because there are pictures of six-year-old them on a pony on Facebook or something. It's all okay with me. Having his kids on stage a lot is okay with me. But I reserve the right to think it's weird.

Hey. Lots of different learning styles out there. We all have a different pace.
|
I think it's okay for the kids to be there if they are curious, etc. It looked like they just wanted to be around their dad. The one bit I found uncomfortable was when Billy pressured Auggy Jupe to dance. The kid was shy and didn't look like he wanted to, but he was bribed into ignoring his boundaries with the promise of hot wheels, for no good reason at all.
