According to Erlandson, who discussed the recording sessions online in 2005, Love was allegedly "not caring about" playing her instrument during the sessions, focusing only on singing and song-writing. He also confirmed Corgan's involvement in the recording process, and revealed he played bass on "Hit So Hard" and the outtake "Be a Man." Earlier in 2002, Love revealed on the band's official online forum, that Corgan also played bass on "Petals" as Melissa Auf der Maur was unable to play it.

Oh, you mean the hits?

Cool As Ice Cream 04-04-2014 03:50 AM

celebrity skin and malibu? or are there more hits in that list?

he also co-wrote "be a man", apparently. this was also released as a single. not sure if it was a hit though. i don't know if i know this song.

did we ever find out if he wrote that horrible veronicas song with the "mouths of babes" lyric in it

I've always wondered if Billy didn't actually sing uncredited on "Playing your Song" on "Celebrity Skin". Listen to it REALLY close (with headphones, and if possible, not from a bad youtube video), there's a weird voice singing under Courtney's main vocal, the same melody, but an octave lower. It could probably be just Courtney who can sing quite low (even if she didn't have her croaky, "been chain smoking forever" tone yet). It's most audible during the middle part ("their innocence tastes like candy, yeah...") but the vocal sounds really nasal and could be Corgan, but it's really hard to tell (I could just picture him singing on a song dissing those unoriginal post-grunge bands).

reprise85 04-04-2014 09:57 AM

I love Celebrity Skin, even the songs Billy didn't co-write, like Northern Star and Playing Your Song. Though there are some boring songs like Heaven Tonight. Solid B album.

juliana 04-04-2014 10:43 AM

Billy said on howard stern once that he also ghost wrote and played some bass on the album.

A proper Hole reunion is underway. Late last year, Courtney Love hinted at the possibility, tweeting a photo of herself with the band's founding guitarist Eric Erlandson. Now Love has confirmed that she, Erlandson, Melissa Auf Der Maur, and Patty Schemel have been practicing together, reuniting a lineup that broke up in 2002.

"I started playing with Patty and Melissa and Eric, just to see how that was," Love told The Quietus late on April 1. "We already played like three or four times in the last week." Her previously teased solo single, "Wedding Day," is reportedly due ahead a Love's U.K. tour in May.

According to The Quietus, Love and the reunited Hole are working on a new music. Their last album together was 1998's Celebrity Skin. Love was the only Hole member returning for the band's nominal 2010 album Nobody's Daughter (check out Love's March 2010 SPIN cover story).

Elsewhere, Love has brought new life to the idea of a Kurt Cobain musical, and photos of an apartment she shared with her late husband recently surfaced online. When not searching for Daniel Tosh's genitals or Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, she recently starred in a Fall Out Boy video.

Courtney Love discussed the status of Hole’s reunion in a new interview with The Daily Telegraph:

“We may have made out but there is no talk of marriage,” she says of tentative meetings with former band mates. “It’s very frail, nothing might happen, and now the band are all flipping out with me.”

Love announced last week that the classic 90′s Hole lineup of herself, Eric Erlandson, Melissa auf der Maur, and Patty Schemel were back together rehearsing and planning new material.

Joan Jett To Front Nirvana Reunion

UPDATE: The photo also was posted on Nirvana’s official Facebook page.

Foo Fighters tweeted the above photo, with Joan Jett’s guitar. The others instruments are Dave Grohl’s, Krist Novoselic’s, and Pat Smear’s. Nirvana are set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this week and the surviving members will appear on The Tonight Show.

Interesting. Her voice isn't as strong as it used to be, but I'd be curious to see Joan Jett front Nirvana. I'm assuming it's just for the induction?

TuralyonW3 04-09-2014 09:23 PM

Joan Jett is cool

Trotskilicious 04-10-2014 01:33 AM

i don't think a strong voice is necessary for nirvana

It's not. It's just something I noticed when I saw her live some time ago, which sometimes happens with age. She's still a great performer, though. I like Kurt's voice, but he didn't always sound great either, probably because he often blew out his voice.

I thought they might go with Paul McCartney again, but Jett's a much better choice.

Nirvana will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame tonight, and the band (sans late frontman Kurt Cobain) will perform at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn with Joan Jett. Michael Stipe will be inducting them as well, so you never know if multiple people could end up singing. If anybody is attending, please e-mail me your phone number (grungereport @yahoo.com) so we can have live coverage. You can also register and upload live feedback and photos to our sister site Concertfy. I really hope tons of people film the performance.

My prediction is that they’ll play 2-3 songs, and that one of them will be “Milk It.” Dave Grohl has called that his favorite Nirvana song, and he tried to get PJ Harvey to perform it with the band last year. I’d love to see them do “Territorial Pissings” with Jett, that song would really suit her voice. I do think they’ll perform a hit though in addition to a more rare track, I could see them doing “Lithium” or “Smells Like Teen Spirit” if they go that route. The surviving Nirvana members rehearsed ‘Teen Spirit’ instrumentally in late 2010.

If Michael Stipe sings a song, I think “All Apologies” would be perfect for his voice. Anybody else have predictions for tonight? Will Courtney Love throw her granny panties onstage at Dave Grohl during the performance?

PJ Harvey would have been great, but I'm not surprised she didn't go for it.

3. Lithium (with St. Vincent)
4. All Apologies (with Lorde)

As expected, the surviving members of Nirvana performed with Joan Jett, St. Vincent, and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth. The band played Smells Like Teen Spirit, Lithium, and Aneurysm, respectively.

In one of the more surreal performances of recent memory, Lorde took the stage with Pat Smear, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl to do an emotional rendition of All Apologies by Nirvana. Smear used his acoustic guitar from 1994 for the performance.

The ceremony will be aired on HBO on May 31st.

The 90s were really great. Really exciting decade. A lot of hope for sanity. Seems things are so messed right now.

Trotskilicious 04-11-2014 04:07 AM

the 90s are very overrated

i have to say that i really like that they had women perform for kurt at the RNR hall of fame, i thought joan's fucked up growl was pretty much spot on even though the sound quality on those vids is non existant

juliana 04-11-2014 04:19 AM

Kurt would have probably preferred a woman. He was very much a feminist.
