Worst work uniform I've had to wear was an atrocious pinstriped vest as a restaurant hostess. Apparently I couldn't just wear a dress or a classy blouse.

Congrats!

this is great advice. my therapist often encouraged opposite action. i guess it's good for anxiety if u do it right.

I've taken that whole "fake it til you make it" concept to heart, and it works reasonably well for me.

Now I kinda feel like Liz Truss. Like nobody really wants me there and I’m about to make a set of disastrous decisions.

I’m not used to anyone choosing me for anything. I entertained the thought of turning it down

Congrats!

You got this.

Will you be managing people?

Would you mind expanding on this?

I often suffer from crippling anxiety and when I'm in that state trying to get on the right path by thinking about it usually feels like juggling knives.

iz a DBT technique that's about not letting negative emotions dictate actions and regulating the emotions. my therapist would call it "holding the emotion in my hand and examining it".

While out shopping this morning, I saw a poor hunched over woman in her 80s wearing a BAZINGA shirt, and I cannot stop laughing about it

Thanks for the congrats. I’ll give it a try. It would be very uncharacteristic behaviour for me, and from what I can tell they gave me the position because of my current behaviour and attitude…so messing with that, by displaying confidence I don’t genuinely feel, might be a bit of a bait and switch.

Thank you! No, not in terms of working out KPIs and being responsible for their performance. It’s a step in between - so more complex situations are escalated to me, and I’m meant to play more of a mentoring role. The vacancy arose because the person previously in the role was promoted to management. So I think it’s meant to be a development pathway.

.

Absolutely do what you feel is best, but to clarify I meant feeling (even pretending to feel) the confidence and capability internally, not becoming an outwardly arrogant asshole overnight . I'm completely sure you'll kick ass.

Especially on someone who I'm almost fully sure does not watch Big Bang Theory. Kind of reminded me of pictures of kids who obviously don't speak English wearing a shirt that says I <3 BEER, etc

Yeah I second ilp you'll kill it. Don't change anything about your attitude.

So apparently Bill Murray is also an asshole and a creep.

I bought a ticket for this tour. I haven't been to a concert since 2016, and likely won't for another 6 years after this, so it needs to be amazing.

slunken 10-11-2022 07:48 PM

anyone fuck with toe spreaders before?

i'm on day 2. just trying to perfect my life.

yo soy el mejor 10-11-2022 07:53 PM

those are good for cleaning and painting toenails.

slunken 10-11-2022 07:59 PM

i got the ones that are supposed to be more for stretching your toes back into alignment, although i did get the idea because i've been giving myself foot baths and sloughing off the gunk off the bottom of my feet and inner toes at least once a week

ilikeplanets 10-11-2022 08:21 PM

I own some, but find myself able to paint my nails fine without them so they're just sitting in a drawer

yo soy el mejor 10-11-2022 08:30 PM

i didn't get a promotion, but found out today i was accepted into a year-long mentorship leadership program that requires only a 2-4 hour/per month commitment but will look bomb on my resume. i want to use my degree and do policy research or evaluation or build training curriculum. right now i'm just a dumb fundraiser...it's my first job out of a graduate school.

my supervisor suggested the program to me. she asked about it this morning and i said i'd heard nothing so i guess they didn't want me. but then i got an email later inviting me to join. after feeling jaded about my job for a while, it was tight to get the following feedback: "We received your incredibly impressive application to be a mid-career mentee and your application is one of the most highly-rated."

I can't imagine they say that to everyone..whatever it means! /pats self on back

OH, and my would-be mentor is younger than I am, but she's got the goods. it's not my fault she went to college out of high school.

slunken 10-13-2022 05:35 PM

i could see how it would be very easy to fall in love with the sight of me but i'm very complex

i'm not just a body

So I think I've hit a new low. The past few times Cake has played on the radio, I have enjoyed it. Not The Distance, I still hate that song, but all the other hits, especially Never There.

I don't know who I am anymore.

Disco King 10-14-2022 02:10 AM

Just saw Front 242 live. I don't know if I've ever seen a band having more fun on stage.

I have not!

Also, I'm 99% certain that during "Red Team," De Meyer played a little joke and snuck in a "blue team" in there.
