MTAE is amazons "album of the week."

See billy? You're still loved.

SpFission 12-10-2014 03:27 PM

The reviews on amazon always seem to be way more harsh relative to other bands. For example, very mediocre albums like Sonic Highways will get almost all 4's and 5's. Pumpkins critics always seem more vitriolic than that of other groups. Almost always held to a different and harsher standard

SpFission 12-10-2014 03:35 PM

Billy has pissed off so many people that there is likely an army of anti-corganites that just go around on the Internet shitting all over him and the band.

Mr Billy Boy says:

"SP currently rocking #5 on iTunes album chart. THANK YOU to everyone who's supporting! We love ya. Kimmel tonight, SF tomorrow, more to come

And let me add special thank you to @HowardStern + Co. Class acts all the way around, and it's amazing to be interviewed by best in business. If Howard Stern asks me a question I answer it honestly out of respect to him because: he is a music fan first, and has always encouraged me."

All of the Foo Fighters albums can be accurately described as mediocre, but people love Dave so much they give his boring songs a pass.

It's the opposite with Corgan, a man who is many things but never boring.

Araneae 12-11-2014 04:24 PM

The latest Foo Fighters album has received worse reviews than the new SP album, their success is largely dependent on their fans and not because critics are just purposely picking on Billy. I don't follow nor like the Foo Fighters but Dave seems to treat his fans quite nicely and avoids running his mouth too much, so it's not a surprise that they're loyal and buy whatever he releases.

Meanwhile, Billy has systematically dismantled the fanbase since Zeitgeist. He has shut down every fan forum, put monte in charge, spent half his concerts insulting fans and the other half insulting people/fans in interviews. His "I have no fan base" is his own self-fulfilling prophecy.

It was the album of the week in the observer on Sunday (UK national newspaper)

Araneae 12-11-2014 05:10 PM

I realize monte wasn't "in charge" but he was the worst fucking choice to be a fan liaison, because he wanted to be the only fan liaison. He's not innocent of the reputation he has received, overblown at times, yes, but sometimes justified. His attitude (being a self-entitled prick), poor communication skills, poor writing/updates, and his hoarding really didn't endear him to people. He treated most other fans shoddily and, instead of working with other active fans in the community, he purposely tried to sabotage them, and the fact that he tattles to Billy about the fans also doesn't help. The only time I felt that fan relations started to improve is when Kerry was in charge, he actively set things up and communicated with people without acting like a megalomaniac.

Does everyone forget that even when SD came out billy was alienating his fans from gish&pre-gish.

The Lolla rants in 94 weren't any better then the 20th anniversary tour.
The difference is at that time his fanbase was growing. You can't act that way when it's on a decline.

krackhead 12-11-2014 05:41 PM

hahaha beiber's album is album of the last 3 years and b0lly only gets album of the week.

Sure, it's easier to ignore when the music is great and he's only 26…but, on the other hand, Billy lost out on a lot of fans because of the Lolla '94 tour. To this day I still occasionally meet random people who tell me what a fucking prick Billy was during that tour. People are a hell of a lot less forgiving of him at this point, given his history.
