Prince's pedalboard:

Nice and simple, emphasis on function. Effects were just a utility for him, no point in getting too tweaky with things. He could afford anything for a rig but barely has a $1000 worth of pedals and basically stuck with the same set-up his entire career.

Ram27 08-22-2017 01:30 PM

I love how clean that looks.

It's weird to think about someone like Prince setting up a pedalboard. Usually big pompous pop stars like that just kinda sing and dance around

The Omega Concern 08-22-2017 08:41 PM

yeah...I don't think I once ever thought of Prince, "I wonder what amp he uses?".

he did do all of that and glammed it up as much as any horny star of the 80's, but he could play the guitar like Hendrix and be as surreal as he wanted to be in that way. Its what set him apart from anyone and everyone, from girly pop to hard rock.

You don't know much about Prince do you?

The Omega Concern 08-24-2017 10:34 PM

I love how Prince, towards the end of his career when the tide of music was completely away from straight forward rock, just went right for it in his funk fashion with the 3rd Eye girl's, each of whom had unreal chops. He grew out the fro and Jimi'd it up the rest of the way out. He and those girls were untouchable.

wounded 08-27-2017 12:48 PM

yeah those shows about a year before he passed away were great. Also this video never gets old.

The Omega Concern 08-28-2017 10:46 PM

Still waiting for that guitar to come down. It's like he pressed the zero gravity button on it and...poof. It just disappears.

Ram27 08-30-2017 04:34 PM

I don't know why but Mazzy Star just has the best acoustic guitar sound I've ever heard

Just got these two and they work like a charm. I put the ISP in the fx loop and it completely gets rid of the crackle and hiss in the DSL 2000. Put the Sentry in the ES-8 behind the gain pedals. I'm running 21 pedals overall (11 in the ES-8, fuzzes and PS-5 in front, compressor/eq behind it and a buffer in front and behind) and with all the requisite power supplies and cabling, the two on together has quieted down all the unwanted noise like a charm and tightened up the tone in a good way.

Still need to tweak the Sentry a bit to max out its capabilities, but so far so good.

Shedding old unwanted pedals on ebay. Getting back down to basics. Still on the fence about getting a Mel9 but kind of want to focus on real guitar sounds at the moment. Afraid that adding such a device will make me lie about the guitar again.

The Omega Concern 11-12-2017 11:27 PM

heh, well said. i've been kinda on the fence about the Mel9 for the same reason.

buzzard 12-13-2017 02:54 AM

Thoughts, anybody?

Shadaloo 12-13-2017 12:51 PM

I just fucking bought a Nano Pi, goddammit

MarquisInSpades 12-13-2017 12:54 PM

:O

MarquisInSpades 12-13-2017 01:55 PM

I'll probably create my own multi-effects pedal after I get better at playing the guitar using a Raspberry Pi or an Arduino.

soniclovenoize 12-13-2017 10:30 PM

idk I've never liked the EHX Nano series. I'll pass.

soniclovenoize 12-13-2017 10:54 PM

Also I think I got enough fuzz pedals already.

soniclovenoize 03-24-2021 10:38 AM

Anyone else blowing their stimmy on gear? I really haven't invested in new pedals since, well, last posting in this thread! So I thought I deserved to splurge a bit. Some shit I got...

The new EHX Russian Green Big Muff. It rocks. Allegedly reproduction of the original Sovtek Green Big Muff (which I had in the 2000s but was stolen ;_; ). A/Bing, they sound really close, but it sounds way better than the Bass Big Muff I have been using for eternity.

TC Vibraclone. I just wanted a cheap, no frills, quick n easy rotary sound. That's it. Was using a Small Clone explicitly for that purpose, so this is replacing that.

Mattoverse Airtrash Fuzz. woo golly! Nasty, skanky fuzz that devolves into oscillations and rando noise. I got the wooden one.

Caroline Somesault. A fucked up chorus pedal. Getting some crazy ass modulations, bleeps and bends. It also has this "explosion footswitch" that when hit, it jumps the modulation speed to the max, making it seem like it's suddenly "exploding".

Death By Audio Echo Dream 2. A great analog delay pedal that made by my favorites Death By Audio. This is essentially upgrading my decade-old EHX Memory Boy, as this thing can do that plus an insane amount of crazy delay antics smoothly.

Catalinbread Csidman. It's a really pristine digital delay pedal, but with a turn of a few knobs, it becomes a glitch pedal, as the delays can be random and chaotic.

I also have a Gojira Noise Ensemble on order. Can't wait for it!

Alice 03-24-2021 05:29 PM

Do you have/have you used a Fuzz War? I've been thinking about getting one

Alice 03-24-2021 05:34 PM

And how am I supposed to buy a pedal from a man who combs his hair like that anyway

Alice 03-24-2021 05:38 PM

Sorry, that was perhaps uncalled for

Alice 03-24-2021 05:38 PM

SORRY OLIVER

Alice 03-24-2021 05:39 PM

Come on though

smashingjj 03-25-2021 12:23 PM

Ok, assholes, I was supposed to be rehearsing tonight but that fell through. Instead I'll be posting here. Fuck yeah.

smashingjj 03-25-2021 12:31 PM

For both my bands, I play my Fender jazz bass.

I'm pretty cool.

smashingjj 03-25-2021 12:32 PM

That's Gijs and a youth picture of the guitarist on it. Like I said, I'm a cool dude.

smashingjj 03-25-2021 12:35 PM

I finally bought a small pedal train half a year or so ago, and it improved my life so much, that I honestly don't know how it could be improved any further.

For Apneu, I use the Ampeg SVT sound emulator.

smashingjj 03-25-2021 12:36 PM

I don't use that one for Fine China Superbone, since I have this amp for that band:

smashingjj 03-25-2021 12:38 PM

I use an old ass Ampeg cab for that one too. I can't find a picture. It has a speaker on the front and one on the back. It's rowdy.

smashingjj 03-25-2021 12:40 PM

For Apneu, I use an Ashdown amp with a newer Ampeg cab. Especially with the SVT emulator it sounds good enough.

Thing is with both my cabs that the wheels keep falling off.
