Iggy Pop

Daily Express | Showbiz :: Pop's rant against modern rock

The Lust for Life hitmaker started a backlash against the genre on his website by branding certain groups "idiot thugs with guitars making crappy music".

And the singer has now revealed during a video announcement for his new album, Preliminaires, that he was referring to Fred Durst's recently reformed group and the Smashing Pumpkins.

He says, "Anyone from Smashing Pumpkins to - what's the one with Fred Durst?... There are a million billion of them. And people

think they're gods, man."

And the star also takes a swipe at intellectual rockers, adding, "I took great pains not to think first because the thing I can't stand is a rock star who thinks he's got brains. They're always so damned dull!"

as much as i can dig iggy's older music, he's always been kind of an idiot. branding anyone from the pumpkins a "thug" just reinforces that notion. also, an aversion to things of an intellectual nature oten coincides with a lack of personal intellect.

I mean, we can talk about the new music sucking and being nothing too innovative (I actually like the new stuff) but to call out the band that made Siamese Dream, MCIS, and Adore...guy's nuts.

the funny thing is that Billy is a great huge Iggy fan.

T&T 06-06-2009 07:04 PM

when is billy going to start doing his rock shows shirtless? cause that'll be the day I agree with
"billy the thug"
"billy the intellectual"
"billy the wanna be punker"

Rickpat12 06-06-2009 09:02 PM

Haha during the small August Tour he came out shirtless...I wanna say the Florida date. It was during the encore.

The 1-2-3 release of stooges, fun house, and raw power is so essential that iggy can say anything he wants. Billy never released 3 classic albums in a row.

Joe 06-07-2009 12:15 AM

i'm actually pretty sure iggy says this everytime he has a new album out, i remember hearing him make the same rant like 5 years ago.

and iggy is just flustrated, he has to leave stage after 3 songs to drink medimusil take some glycerine and suck off an oxygen bottle

null123 06-07-2009 01:05 AM

fred durst and the smashing pumpkins. these are the cultural forces shaping america today

sure he did. Maybe even 4.

I respect Iggy's music, but like taking pot shots at SP and Limp Bizkit!? (since when did anyone talk about limp bizkit?) Iggy can't write a fucking song anymore either so he should just shut the fuck up.

myosis 06-07-2009 10:43 AM

what he's saying is basically valid, whatever part of the quote you're trying too hard to focus on.

T&T 06-07-2009 11:06 AM

Trotskilicious 06-07-2009 12:18 PM

Iggy is a a streetwalkin cheetah with a heart full of napalm

btw Adore and/or Gish are not classic or essential albums unless you're a pumpkins fag and/or have very low standards for what "classic" and/or "essential" mean.

Trotskilicious 06-07-2009 12:32 PM

uuuh ok.

Trotskilicious 06-07-2009 12:36 PM

i guess not liking everything they've ever done doesn't matter it's about an arbitrary number right.

Trotskilicious 06-07-2009 12:40 PM

here's a cookie

enjoy!

Trotskilicious 06-07-2009 12:51 PM

are you going to listen to unreleased tracks and talk about how great they are? if so i'll be there

Trotskilicious 06-07-2009 12:58 PM
