A great band who obviously like the pixies.

shared a table with a high-schooler, she was looking at sheet music.
PJ Harvey for piano.
in my typical assumption making mode, I thought nice, that's likely one teenager who isn't full of shit.

girl answers her phone and starts complaining how her piano teacher is "the worst ever" and gave her "such a bad song" to learn - The River.
nuke the planet.

I dont feel like a very good DM fan that i honestly did not know until now that this had been a single nevermind that they had a video for it (i watched musiqueplus all he time in those days pretty sure they never aired this which is weird since all the other vids from violator were in heavy rotation back then, i guess it didnt chart well). I always thought it was one of the best if not the best song on violator so i'm glad it WAS a single.

and this video is amazing in a wtf way.

when the walls come tumbling in
though we may deserve it
It will be worth it

I love this song. Probably the best thing in that entire "The Judge" movie.

It is. And compared to the majority of my 90ies albums, Is This Desire ages really well.

If I get to choose I'll take something real

The video is kinda meh, but I really like this song.
And their first album is pretty good too.

No Shade in the Shadow of the Cross

Now that I fell into your arms
My only lover
Give out to give in
I search for the capsule I lost

Drag me to hell
In the valley of The Dalles
Like my mother
Give wings to a stone
It’s only the shadow of a cross

I slept on my back
In the shade of the meadowlark
Like a champion
Get drunk to get laid
I take one more hit when you depart

I’ll drive that stake through the center of my heart
Lonely vampire
Inhaling its fire
I’m chasing the dragon too far

There’s blood on that blade
Fuck me, I’m falling apart
My assassin
Like Casper the ghost
There’s no shade in the shadow of the cross

I know i posted about thsi band last year but i thank youtube i one day stumbled about them. i love this band despite its quirks like the accent (russian) and sometimes slightly awkward english and the fact their earlier stuff is sometimes (often) a clear Joy Division rip off. I'm not sure what it is but their music makes me think back on summers of my teens (the only good part of them) Probably because it reminds me of the times i was discovering the bands that clearly influenced them.

not sure what it is but cheese cobbler soup sounds kind of good. i'm imagining an oatmeal mixed with cheese danish like breakfast mush.

LaBelle 02-18-2015 07:09 PM

Not that biographical information matters when it comes to appreciating art, but his recent Pitchfork interview is really good.

LaBelle 02-20-2015 11:25 AM

this song really speaks to how I feel right now...

I love Muse

Trotskilicious 02-21-2015 03:20 AM

of course

of course

pavementtune 02-21-2015 07:01 PM

why doesn't Mister E get more love here?

because Eels are so totally lame - I speak elphy-fuzzy-and-co by now and can answer that myself.

Sonic Johnny 02-22-2015 12:56 AM

So this band features three quarters of Code Orange Kids but they MAKE ME FEEL ALL HAPPY which is awesome cause Code Orange is brilliant but it's the musical equivalent of chugging a pint of orphan teeth and rusty nails.

Trotskilicious 02-22-2015 03:48 AM
