So I have a Tesla and it's fucking amazing. On Halloween I was driving back from my rehab group therapy thing [that is to say, 100% sober] and got in a wreck and now it's in the shop and I'm driving a shitty piece of shit fucking motherfucking gas burning rental car and I am in fucking misery.

I drive for work and have a two hour round trip thrice a week for therapy. I bought the Tesla because I was spending like $500/month on gas; now I spend that on my car payment instead. Now I get to do both for a month!

what's also fun is that Tesla lets you name your car, so you anthropomorphise it and get attached so it hurts even more when it's gone

Repair shops suck! I came out of a doctor's office that's about an hour from my house to find that my car wouldn't start. The two year old and I had to ride in a tow truck to the nearest repair shop on the insurance's list. Of course they were closed. I got a ride from my parents, but at this point it started to rain and it was dark. When we were about 10 minutes from home, my kid vomited in her car seat. After scrubbing her and the car seat, I realized that I left my cell phone in the broken down car at the shop. We can't lock that car because unlocking it sets off the alarm for some reason. The next day I called the repair shop to find out that the owner is a real asshole, and only works on foreign cars, which mine is not. Eventually he got around to repairing it anyway, for over $700 and 5 days without the car, and I did get my phone back immediately, but that was definitely not an experience I am looking to repeat.

I heard that 'rich' is $25m+, these days. So below that is still middle class, maybe - if upper middle? That seems ridiculous.

I dunno. That is probably more to do with measuring 'richness' relative to the extreme levels of private wealth that exist now, rather than any objective kind of measure of wealth. But class is sort of relative, you know???

I agree Ram seems rich rather than middle class. I guess I just never noticed how middle class netpho is, before.

I read an interesting description of middle class as "Able to afford all the things you need, and some of the things you want." and that seems fair.
