i know it's def-tones, but in my head, i often think deft-ones

That screaming on that song is unreal. That song is like "Cherub Rock" levels of opener quality. The album isn't my favorite by a longshot, but man - that thing and Minerva alone make the album a worthy buy. Saw Deftones at the Vancouver stop on the Summersault tour in 2000 across Canada. Perfect Circle was supposed to play but had to cancel, but Maynard was there - so he came out and they did Passenger together. One of those "holy shit what was that?!?" moments. I got White Pony during my freshman year of college - the red limited edition one - having only ever really heard "Change". Was one of my 'out on a limb here but I'm at Circuit City and want a new album' purchases. There's a LOT to be said for the drum and guitar tones on that album: one of my favorite albums from a production standpoint for sure. Such warm drums, with that puppy on discman with a good pair of headphones was a very unique listening experience all over college campus all the time. Went forward with them at that point - but nothing hit White Pony levels of high. Bought s/t, enjoyed - bought SNW and it did very little for me, sadly. Then when Diamond Eyes came out, I scored a free copy and figured to give it a real shot. After just a few listens, it grew on me big time. Would say that one comes in second place for me, handily. I've got both Gore and Koi, but haven't given either nearly enough time to really get into them, which I keep feeling like is a bad idea given how much praise they get. This thread is inspiring me to do that. This one takes the cake for me... didn't realize just how good it was until they re-released it as "Back to School" and cashed in on the nu-metal craze then I realized JUST how good that second to last cut on White Pony is: |
OK, one more comment - anybody have White Pony on vinyl that can speak to how it sounds? Looking for the best sounding pressing of it... seems to be a ton of different variants, etc.

A couple of years ago they reissued the first few Deftones albums remastered and some tracks even have extra elements not found on the original releases, but HOLY FUCK these remasters are terrible sounding! They're brickwalled and blasted out to shit and absolutely grating on the ears. I can't believe they fucked them up this bad. Just avoid them at all costs. I really hope they didn't replace the original masters with the remasters on streaming services. I wish they would just remove them altogether and just let the originals be or get someone who knows what they're doing to remaster them.
|
not sure if i've heard those but, it's not like the originals were exactly quiet!

Just so you see that I am not crazy... Here is "Elite" off White Pony Original 16 bit master on top / 24 bit remaster on bottom This is BEYOND brickwalled |
and Minerva...
original 16 bit master on top 24 bit hi-res remaster on bottom Yea, their albums were always loud, but you still saw the details in the waveform even at the loudest parts. With the remasters, they're all gone. It's just a solid blue brick. Disappointing. Adrenaline, Around The Fur, White Pony, Deftones, Saturday Night Wrist, Diamond Eyes 24 bit hi-res remasters are all brickwalled. |
I’m kinda glad I can’t recognize things like that lol
|
Listening to s/t on vinyl right now and I’d sort of forgotten what a beast of a song battle axe is. One of chino’s best vocal performances. Which is saying a lot.

but yeah, are these the current masters on spotify etc or something? i didn't even know they existed |

Sorry, I wasn't writing as you were doubting me. I was coming more from a lighthearted, two dudes smoking a joint, being like maaaaan, did you see this shit? Just two fans who like Deftones. So my bad. These are 24 bit lossless remasters for sale as digital downloads, not from a streaming source. They were released around when Gore came out, I believe. I don't know which masters they use for streaming services as I absolutely hate streaming services. I am all about 16/24 bit downloads or physical music. I hate, hate, HATE lossy compression and streaming services do some atrocious shit to audio quality. |

This was an eye opening video if you want to see what streaming services do to music... |

I cannot believe how much these tickets are. $25 fee?! Haven’t seen them
In a headline spot since 2006 though so I bit the bullet : ( |
Eulogy where are you seeing $25 fees? Ticketbastard? eventticketscenter.com wants $8.95 just to deliver a ticket via email... I'm passing for now.
Subtotal: $101.00 Service Fee: 1 x $31.82 Delivery: $8.95 --------------- $141.77 |
Ticketmaster for the Chicago show. Doesn’t specify whether it’s the venue or tm or both
|
And I think it’s physical tickets. I had to select a shipping method. Which also was extra. Show better be really good!!!

i saw them twice 3 years ago for a combined price that was less than that |

It was really strange, the 2 options were email or mobile. I left it on email and at the end of it all it still said Delivery: $8.95. So $8.95 to send an email eh? That was on eventticketscenter which I don't trust anyway so I'm going to see what happens on ticketbastard this morning. You had to have a citi credit card to buy yesterday so even if I wanted to pay those absurd fees I wouldn't have been able to. Buying big tickets is so fucked these days.
|
Meet and Greet: $395 + fees = $461.08
lol. Maybe if there were some drinks and a little blow involved. It was free to wait out in the rain December 2000. Caught the worst cold but all 5 Deftones were very kind about making small talk and signing two promo pics I got at the record store down the street. My gf at the time was a huge fan and had seen them a bunch going back to '96 but couldn't make the trip to St. Louis. If you check out some of the groups/boards where the really die hard fans hang out a bunch of people are spending $400+ for these and some get a second for their partner. |
Guys as I already said I think it’s physical tickets. Email option was probably just an error.
|
This was not on ticketmaster and I think it was for some fancy early entry vip ticket. General sale for non-citi card or meet & greet folk is this morning.
I don't care, my poor ass just wants to spend $65-$85 to be able to show up whenever with a GA floor ticket. They can send me the ticket by bird if they want. |
ok, ok, it's Friday at 1 pm for everyone else. ok
"Tickets go on sale to the general public this Friday, February 14 at 1:00 p.m. local time. Citi is the official presale credit card of the DEFTONES summer tour 2020.
