Ouch

LalaPumpkinhead 02-25-2013 12:15 PM

there should be a law that would forbid iggy from taking off his shirt.

DaveKShape 02-25-2013 12:20 PM

Hilarious that they're now "Iggy and the Stooges". Just in case anyone forgot that Iggy was in The Stooges.

Well it's the "Raw Power" era line-up that's releasing a new album. They are called "Iggy and The Stooges" now just as they were in 1973. Get your shit straight.

so iggy's accusing the smashing pumpkins of not making any new albums, because they're afraid the new albums might be shit?
could he be more wrong? clearly the smashing pumpkins are still making new albums, and obviously the very last thing they care about is the quality. very much like the stooges, i guess.
what a clown.

LalaPumpkinhead 02-25-2013 12:38 PM

iggy pop spends his days looking for clean veins to shoot up in

Cool As Ice Cream 02-25-2013 12:55 PM

at least he's doing something useful.

You missed his point, which was it' not really the pumpkins, just Billy and some replacements. (I.e. not the "real group"). Stooges are original members, for better or worse.

cardiac 02-25-2013 01:25 PM

"It put the punk into metal or the other way around. Essential listening."

- Billy on The Stooges' "Fun House". He ranked it as the 10th greatest heavy metal album of all time. That article is from 2010 so it's fairly plausible to assume that he still thinks very highly of Iggy.

Ouch, indeed

LalaPumpkinhead 02-25-2013 01:53 PM

To also speak to Turalyon's point on this one... I think CAIC hit it on the head. While Iggy's right that BC has dumped the band and it really is "the bald guy and whoever" nowadays, the point of the whole clip was that Iggy thinks that bands need to be making new music.

Which BC is - arguably to his detriment. If you're going to publicly take a dump on a band, at least look at their Wiki to see if they've created an album of new material in the past 10 years - which "SP" has done, twice.

Cool As Ice Cream 02-25-2013 02:43 PM

this isn't the first time iggy pop pisses on the pumpkins, is it? i think he did so a couple of years ago, but if i remember it correctly, he wasn't talking about sp2. he didn't like the music of sp1.

Cool As Ice Cream 02-25-2013 02:47 PM

ah, here it is: http://www.nme.com/news/iggy-pop/45127
(note how he also needed to promote a new album at that time.)

Iggy Pop slams Smashing Pumpkins and Limp Bizkit

Singer names 'crappy music' makers - video

Iggy Pop has expanded on comments he made about the current state of rock music, singling out Smashing Pumpkins and Limp Bizkit for criticism.

On a recent YouTube video to promote his new jazz-influenced album, 'Preliminaires' (watch it by clicking below), he railed against "crappy music" by "idiot thugs with guitars".

Now the singer has revealed some of the acts he was referring to.

"Anyone from Smashing Pumpkins to – what's the one with Fred Durst?" he said in an interview with The Sun's Something For The Weekend section, referring to Limp Bizkit.

"There are a million billion of them," he added, "and people think they're gods, man."

He added that the video message he released was unscripted.

"I took great pains not to think first," he said, "because the thing I can't stand is a rock star who thinks he's got brains. They're always so damned dull!"

LalaPumpkinhead 02-25-2013 02:47 PM

the stooges 2007 album is worse than teargarden vol. 1

Trotskilicious 02-25-2013 02:59 PM

if that was his point, then he did a good job hiding it in the message.

zbeast78 02-25-2013 03:38 PM

ouch. to be lumped in with Limp Bizkit hurts, no matter the source.

Some people think Helter Skelter was the first heavy metal song.

Yeah. He actually took a page from the Corgan book. He released an album the general population considered substandard (2007 album/Teargarden by Kaleidyscope) and is now pimping his new album while completely ignoring the one before it.
