How is it that Manson has more fans in 2014 than Billy / new album

Marilyn Manson's lead single off Pale Emperor "seven day binge" has almost 1.5 million views on youtube while "Being Beige" hardly broke 100k. "One and All" is a little better but still has under 300k. I swear i'm not hating on Manson (i'm actually a fan), but you would think their fan base would be at least comparable at this point in time. Billy might be right when he says his fan base is gone :(

Elphenor 12-27-2014 10:05 PM

Because Marilyn Manson is Marilyn Manson and Billy is not Smashing Pumpkins

T&T 12-27-2014 10:09 PM

but then who's brian warner?

slunken 12-27-2014 10:09 PM

which one has a music video

slunken 12-27-2014 10:09 PM

not that that is any way the correct answer

slunken 12-27-2014 10:10 PM

iyts called youtube not you listen

T&T 12-27-2014 10:10 PM

in 2014 it's all about the youtube views.
no views, no fans, no fame.

Elphenor 12-27-2014 10:11 PM

If SP was still together they'd be as big as MM and FF and RHCP

Yeah thats actually a great point! Courtney Love mentioned that in an interview recently. She said Reznor was smart because he was Nine Inch Nails... the same goes for Marilyn Manson. If only Billy could go back and be Smashing Pumpkins he would of been all set!!

MM's new single deep six has a music video. Seven day binge does not have a video. That's why it was the perfect example to use for comparison.

I mean it has his logo and his face moving a bit in the background but i would def not call it a video.

Elphenor 12-27-2014 10:17 PM

The problem is that SP was a Rock Band in a traditional sense where NIN and Manson were always just aliases for one artist

I think being "artists" rather than bands also boosts their popularity within modern day music because that's kind of the trend right now

which is kind of ironic, considering that the other members of MM contributed to the music of the band a lot more than james, d'arcy and perhaps even jimmy did with SP

YA5H 12-27-2014 10:23 PM

I feel like Billy and Co. might have shit canned the video for being beige or something. maybe because of the crappy response to the song.. i mean why else would it be taking this long to put it out. They shot it over a month and a half ago for shit sakes!

I wish it did! because then it would be a little more understandable.. it just makes it all the more sad that there is no video and it still has like almost 15x more views.

Maybe

With MM the actual instrumentation doesn't really mean shit idk

But with SP I don't think Gish or SD could exist without Jimmy and MCIS and Adore wouldn't have been good without James

Then I guess it's pretty useless to compare numbers anyway

- Seven Day Binge is a song many people will click on more than once - even casual fans or people who aren't MM fans at all. Being Beige & One and All don't have that going for them.
- anyone interested in ordering Pale Emperor or just looking up album details doesn't have to visit a whatsthefuckingname ridiciulous shitfest of website

and has Manson spent the better part of the last three months promoting this album with yet another line-up change and stating:

- his contempt for the remaining people still willing to check out his songs

- losing another part of his remaining fanbase even before the album was out by publicly stating things like "private investigators and cash rewards" and then harassing fans with a bullshate legal firm

- he has to dumb down his songs so his remaining idiotic fanbase might get it

- complaining about his live audience being too old while simultaniously ridiculing kids these days and their attention span

- putting down other bands he acutally shares an audience with , claiming he is the best and only one that's actually good (so once again ridiculing his audience for their shitty taste in case they also listened to PJ or whoever the fuck else he keeps pissing on)

- selling christmas ornaments of his "band" (while having spent years rambling that he'd never go down the sell-out route)
edit: look, how cute

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B50YRsyCEAA2-UG.jpg:large

- reminding everyone that he's gone off the deep end by joing Alex Jones calling a tv face a CIA agent and claiming people are out to get him

has he? I wouldn't know what MM has been up to regarding "promoting" his album with one big media shitfest like Corgan did.

and then you have the people who were willing to give Being Beige and One and All more than one listen. of those some might actually be interested to understand what the fuck "the biggest songwriter of his generation" keeps singing in his song. who then states "sure, I've typed it all out, lyrics are ready, I'm just not gonna release them because these stupid fans always read something into it that's not there."

but most of all, both MM songs you mentioned are simply "catchier" (to use that damn word since I can't think of a better one) than Being Beige and One and All.

toase 12-27-2014 10:42 PM

because the pale emperor is a decent album

I want that coffee mug

pavementtune 12-27-2014 11:05 PM

sure you do, who wouldn't want a mug with Monuments to an Elegy written on it.
did you buy the album, that teahouse website gimmick product with some songs on it?

Elphenor 12-27-2014 11:08 PM

I don't buy albums ever. Streaming services

That mug looks neat though

pavementtune 12-27-2014 11:10 PM

not ever? you don't own a single album by the fall?

Elphenor 12-27-2014 11:15 PM

Nope

I own some Cure vinyl but I didn't buy it to listen to it

pavementtune 12-27-2014 11:16 PM

also

MM, for $55 you get:

- a "deluxe" 2LP on white vinyl, with three bonus tracks
- mp3 download of all tracks (and not in 128 kbps)
- a shirt

SP, for $68 you get:

- standard black vinyl 2LP (which you can get for $22 everywhere else)
- shirt

Manson concert tickets are also $20 less than for BC and friends.

and I just looked it up because why not:
meanwhile zuzu camp sold ONE christmas ornament for $10. T-E-N.

that's not post-punk

brutechinasky 12-27-2014 11:20 PM

unless you're planning to use them to defend yourself during an eventual zombie invasion.
that could be post-punk

themadcaplaughs 12-27-2014 11:37 PM

Because people will forgive mediocre music from an artist when good music is released. Manson's last few albums had moments just as bad as anything Billy has done since 2007, but this one album single handedly blows almost everything Billy has done post-2007 out of the water. This is coming from someone who is not a particularly big Marilyn Manson fan.

He knew what fans wanted, and was able to make a record that called to mind of Manson albums, that still managed to look forward, and was not completely based off some contrived gimmick.

YA5H 12-27-2014 11:41 PM

Does Pale Emperor have any heavy songs? I didn't notice any on a quick listen skimming thru the tracks. They seem like there all at a similar slow tempo with not alot of yelling/screaming. I'm a big fan of his heavier songs, MM is his best when he's screaming and the songs have some energy! Like Angel with the scabbed wings and reflecting god. Even Born Villain had a few heavy rock songs (cruel world, no reflection, murderers...)
