So much amazing stuff packed into what looks like a storefront convenience store. It's my new favorite spot. |

o thank god we're back online. i already had the noose around my neck.

this morning my wife told me to stick a wrench in my asshole and twist it until i bleed out. i told her that when men say things like that to women they call it abuse, so she made me stroganof for dinner. #lifewithawife #blessed

Ahhh I see those Licking Lemon tall-boy cans on my desk. Those things were the bomb. None of the liquor stores out here carry them anymore. I assume the company went belly up. They were essentially coolers, they were 7% and tasted like 7-up with a tartyer taste. The best part was that a 6 pack of those babies was only 10 dollars. Bang for your buck, indeed!

i know it may come to surprise that a board that was last re-formatted in 1998 isn't completely up to speed with modern trends, but that's just the cards we're playin with, baby! |

Latinos never pat themselves and each other on the back for "discovering" hotdogs.
Why white people do when they eat Mexican food? We also write books, coño. Read one while you eat a concha someday. Btw, you've already eaten lots of food cooked by Latinos at White restaurants. Who do you think works and is under-paid in the kitchen? |
why do you read everything as some kind of strange flex
I'm just excited about bread and Devo |
Who cares. I'm loving it.

although i did skim an article recently about how "seeking authenticity" in ethnic cuisines might be a new "no-no" for white people.
my tummy doesn't care. wouldn't it be a healthy experience for a white person to be the only "other" in the crowd? don't take food away from me. |
>Why do people get more excited about finding good places that serve cuisine that is less common in a given region than they do when they find hot-dog stands in America?

The other day, this white girl friend I have was telling me about how she likes rap, but feels like she shouldn't imbibe in it, because it's "not for her," and that would be "cultural appropriation."
I told her that, though cultural appropriation is a thing, it's not synonymous with liking something pioneered by a culture other than your own, and there's nothing wrong with her enjoying rap music. She insisted that she shouldn't. I explicitly gave her my permission; a Rap Pass, if you will. She wouldn't take it. White girl literally arguing with me that she SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO BE INTO RAP, jfc How many levels of wokeness are we on. Had the exact same conversation with another white girl about dreadlocks. |
You had me until "dreadlocks"
|
nah jk, i don't care.

I watched a mini debate show on cultural appropriation the other day, and my take away was to just step back and think about if your personal expression is doing harm or not. It probably isn't, but if it is than you need to have some fucking empathy and be willing to learn why.
|
Pretty much, yeah.
But stupid culture-war shit means the loudest camps are the ones who scream "CULTURAL APPROPRIATION ISN'T A THING, PC CULTURE IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD AND THREATENING FREE SPEECH AND SOON WE WILL ALL BE IN FEMA CAMPS, also HOW DARE YOU CRITICIZE ME FOR SQUINTING MY EYES AND PRETENDING TO BE CHINESE, I'M BEING FUNNY" and the ones who scream "omg like can white people just STOP drinking tea, doing so is literally oppression of people of East-Asian descent, I shouldn't have to explain my opinion, asking me to do so is LITERALLY whitesplaining, kthnxbye." |
cultural appropriation is kinda fucked when the culture that's getting appropriated was formed in response to the oppression of the appropriator

there's a lot of good opportunity for cultures to meld and people to learn from each other and create something new, and more raw and human. people have been trading goods and knowledge since the dawn of time, very few cultures were ever totally isolated. most cultures realize that. but there are deep historical implications that are unique to certain forms of culture-sharing that may cause pain to people, and that's when you need to place your personal freedom of expression behind your obligation to show respect to others, especially if you truly admire the culture you're inspired by. imho.

Well, I've now had the dubious honor of being on a Missing Persons list after some questionable driving decisions on the part of one that shall remain unnamed left us stranded in a literal desert with no signal, no supplies and forty kilometres between us and the nearest town.

Posting from said barren lands as you speak!

Turns out, the police response to a missing foreigner is an overwhelming one. They even brought humitas for maximum authenticity, forcing my vacant digestive system to condone cultural appropriation for survival's sake.

This is where they would have built my memorial. On a dirt road that had been closed three weeks prior to "our" failed attempt at utilizing it in a front-wheel-drive SUV typically reserved for driving kids to school.
