NEW DEAFHEAVEN SONG!

If you thought Deafheaven was abandoning their black metal roots, well, go listen to Black Brick. Probably the most straightforward black metal track they’ve done! Unreal!

Post a fucking link, noob.:noway:

redbreegull 02-27-2019 11:30 PM

I’m a hoe for traditional black metal. Love it. Clarke’s voice sounds better than ever

redbreegull 02-28-2019 01:48 AM

yeah I mean it "rocks"

but

what makes them great is the fusion?

redbreegull 02-28-2019 01:48 AM

that's why I couldn't get as into New Bermuda and why OCHL is the best

Sonic Johnny 02-28-2019 02:09 AM

couple very tasty riffs but yeah needs a big triumphant refrain or something.

Oh, definitely. I just kinda find it refreshing, shows they can just do basic black metal better than most. Bermuda is my least favorite, but yeah OCHL and Sunbather are the best.

Sonic Johnny 03-02-2019 04:52 AM

OCHL is their best but i have a lot of love for Bermuda and probably rate it over Sunbather. I love the dumb metallica wah wah shit and the weird post-punk drums and nu-metal riffs on Gifts For The Earth and the way they ganked a sixpence none the richer riff for Brought To The Water

D. 03-02-2019 08:19 PM

I like it. Isn't their strongest song or anything but I can get into it.

I wonder if it's from some kind of forthcoming release or just a one-off.

Sonic Johnny 03-03-2019 12:33 AM

got left off OCHL i believe

I love New Bermuda! It’s their most straightforward black metal album so it kinda gets left out. It doesn’t have the epic-ness that Sunbather and OCHL have.

Mals Marola 03-04-2019 12:04 PM

i don't listen to this band much at all but i did appreciate the (comparatively) stripped-down nature of Bermuda. Didn't feel like it was really lacking in the fusion-of-genres/sounds department but then again i guess i didn't listen as a whole more than a handful of times

New Deafheaven song is ass. If I wanted to listen to Whirr or Slowdive I’d listen to them

House of Bread 08-08-2021 09:25 PM

Yeah, all the new singles are not good at all.

Works pretty good in the context of the album. I actually love some of the slow songs, Shellstar and Lament for Wasps are gorgeous. Mombasa is a standout though.

House of Bread 08-21-2021 10:23 PM

Yeah, I'm swallowing my words. The singles work way better in context. I've given the album 3ish listens and I keep coming back to it. Still sort of unsure how I feel, mainly because it all tends to blend together. Mombasa is the shit though.

House of Bread 08-21-2021 10:27 PM

Also, it has to be said that Daniel Tracey's drumming is fucking phenomenal.

Every song has kinda the same structure which is kind of disappointing, they’ve never been predictable. I think they made it sound similar so the album would have a distinct flow, but I think they went too far. But damn if the album isn’t absolutely beautiful in spots. It’s weird, I’m pretty “meh” when I think about it but I keep replaying it and singing along.

Shellstar, Lament for Wasps and Mombasa are the standouts IMO. I am surprised to love The Gnashing as much as I do, it kind of sucked by itself, but sounds great in the context of the album. Shellstar might be my favorite, that’s a gorgeous song.

Man, I just finished another listen of Infinite Granite and am now listening to OCHL...it really pales in comparison. I'll keep listening because SOMETHING keeps bringing me back to Infinite Granite.

That’s exactly my thing. I listen to it and I’m like…”hmmm, kinda samey throughout but good.” And then five minutes later I’m singing along to Lament for Wasps in my head or craving the ending of Mombasa so listen again.

I do love OCHL tho. I’m a DFHVN fanboy tho.

Why would anyone lament wasps

Joey Goldberg 08-22-2021 01:00 PM

band would be a whole lot better if their "vocalist" was anywhere near as versatile as the rest of the band

fight me

I think his black metal vocals are awesome. His singing…not so much

ninsp 08-22-2021 07:12 PM

Alright, just threw on Sunbather after IG, let’s see.

Can't fight you on that, because I totally agree. They're a great band, but he wasn't wrong in recent interviews where he said he thought he was the weakest link in the band.

6.5 on Pitchfork. Surprising since they usually drool over everything they do and give it a 9. But an accurate score.
