Make american food great again, Plans

I hate Eggs Benedict, and "tuny noody cass," so you'll have to take that request elsewhere

the sound of tuna noodle is so gross! it's gloopy

an egg benny is good, but i prefer them at home rather than out. apparently poached eggs are easy to fuck up and raw egg whites aren't very appetizing so we just gotta do it ourselves. i make a mean hollandaise.

how dare you

slunken 06-03-2023 03:09 PM

another dish i got from a 1960s church lady cookbook is 1 pack of frozen veggies, 1/2 cup of sour cream, a can of cream of chicken (or whatever), 3 cups of cooked rice, and 2 cups of shredded chicken or turkey

you wanna talk about gloop?

I love how it's an American dish with Canadian bacon and French hollandaise. Says it all about US food culture.

Thanksgiving dinner is like 5 kinds of gloop all running together with some turkey on the plate somewhere. :noway:

Only two things I gripe with my family about are on Thanksgiving. My aunt makes a sweet potato dish that is basically a sweet potato pie without the crust and tries to pass it off as not a dessert. And my grandma makes a jello salad that because it has the word salad in the name insists it should be eaten before dinner like a salad and not what it is - which is another dessert.

Personally still haven't perfected the elusive but simple green bean casserole to tell the truth

yo soy el mejor 06-03-2023 03:41 PM

my green bean casserole is off the chain.

got any secrets to share? mine's not bad but i'm just never 100% happy with it.

i've tried different sized pans, i add worcestershire, i double bake...

do you cook it thin and flat or go for a loaf-style pan?

yo soy el mejor 06-03-2023 06:25 PM

i use a square 8x8 or so ceramic dish so i guess more flat than a loaf. i've used this recipe every year but have made small variations here and there:

AH I bet it's the flour that does the trick

ilikeplanets 06-03-2023 11:52 PM

Honestly that usage of "salad" is really a pet peeve of mine, though clearly the word didn't used to be as related to vegetables as it is today. Strawberry pretzel salad is another stupid one, since it's not even fucking mixed together and is a composed dessert. Delicious, though.

slunken 06-04-2023 02:44 PM

TheAlter 06-04-2023 03:04 PM

Kinda wish you'd just lied

ilikeplanets 06-04-2023 04:38 PM

I had a friend who would eat oatmeal sandwiches

ilikeplanets 06-04-2023 04:39 PM

That means porridge sandwiches, AlterBoi

Joey Goldberg 06-04-2023 04:52 PM

i assume it's "had" because you immediately severed ties and/or (justifiably) killed them upon this realization?

ilikeplanets 06-04-2023 06:03 PM

Yeah that would have been an improvement to the truth

slunken 06-04-2023 08:14 PM

one of my favorite perfumes got discontinued and is now on the grey market (if you can find it at all) at triple the price :(
