Seeing Mogwai tonight

it's their sideshow in Sydney before they go play Splendour In The Grass (Australian festival held in Byron Bay)

I'm listening to I Chose Horses and getting excited

im wearing earplugs for the support band, My Disco. I've seen them like 4 times already and they're not very good so it means I can savour my hearing for the whole concert.

Yeah My Disco are boring as hell. This is like the fourth time I've seen them or something. I can imagine it'd be even worse for you, being from Melbourne.

Oblivious 07-20-2006 03:05 PM

that's a pretty good set list. i'd really like to hear acid food and we're no here live. sadly they already came to chicago and i missed it.

Rockin' Cherub 07-20-2006 03:24 PM

nobody cares about mogwai anymore

Fathoms (unadored) 07-20-2006 03:29 PM

I care.

Rockin' Cherub 07-20-2006 04:08 PM

Oblivious 07-20-2006 10:45 PM

transluscent 07-20-2006 10:49 PM

some other song then

i forget which one

mogwai fear satan=best riff ever

celluloid_love 07-21-2006 02:10 AM

Mogwai Fear Satan was the best song of the night. Everything they do is a lot better live. The Happy Songs stuff in particular is way more dynamic and brutal live. Ratts of The Capital blew me away, as did Glasgow Megasnake.

so good

Glad to hear you enjoyed it man, was it your first time seeing them live? Mogwai Fear Satan blew me away the first couple of times I saw it, but for me it's all about the elusive Christmas Steps (only seen it live once)

Glasgow Megasnake is amazing live innit :D

2 rights make 1 wrong is a favourite of mine, live and on the record.

I think it's like 22 min long.

First time, yeah. We've actually had a conversation about Mogwai before, you and I.

But yeah, about Christmassteps, I was kinda hoping that maybe they'd play that. I mean, there was nothing off CODY performed. Kappa would have been nice.

other songs I want to hear: 2 Rights Make 1 Wrong, Like Herod and Stop Coming To My House.

barden 07-21-2006 03:38 AM

What a great band, BTW.

I'm proud of my meagre mogwai collection, considering i've had to hunt down every album I have.

celluloid_love 07-21-2006 03:39 AM

It seems like they're a bit sick of all their stuff being really long, and like to get to the point a bit more these days. Which is good and bad I guess. Fear Satan was nowhere near as long live as it is on Young Team. It's normally over 16 minutes? I think it was about half that live. Unless I was just really into it and I didn't notice how long it was.

ChristHimself! 07-21-2006 03:48 AM

Apologies for not remembering talking to you about mogwai dude, ive been back on the evil green gaskets lately.

Honestly, when I heard christmas steps start that one time, I almost killed everyone near me with my bare hands, it was awesome. That still ranks as the most euphoric gig I've ever been at and I was completely sober at the time.

They didn't play 2 rights make 1 wrong?!?! That's nuts!

This is probably quite likely! The last time I saw mogwai, i was right up at the barrier, my brother was beside me, and some random guy beside him.. they played mfs and literally about 15 seconds before the crunch kicked in..

Random to my brother: Do you know what this song is called?
My brother to me: What's this song called?
Me to my brother: Mogwai Fear Satan.
My brother to me: What? Moglai fate what?
Me to my brother: Mogwai Fear Satan.
My brother to random: Mogwai fears Satan
Random to my brother: Thanks, I'll have to download it
My brother to me: This is a really good gig isn..
Mogwai: *sounds of death and destruction*

It really killed the mood! I was so into the song at that point as well.

That's actually my alarm on my phone for the mornings, from 5 seconds before the heavy bit kicks in.
