MyOneAndOnly 05-25-2014 09:56 PM

The Cure Pornography has some good tunes for that

Sonic Johnny 05-25-2014 10:06 PM

For pure concentrated self-pity Carissa's Wierd's Songs About Leaving and Patron Saint Of Bridge Burners' Sorry, for facing up to your own mortality, Typhoon's song The Sickness Unto Death

bignothing 05-25-2014 10:13 PM

sonic johnny are you on last.fm? let me steal all your music taste thanks

pavementtune 05-25-2014 10:15 PM

you won't need a playlist, this should do. @3:53 you'll be ready to cry (well, I am.)

YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL
MY EMPIRE OF DIRT

(if that's not enough, try Jason Molina)

I find Pornograpy cold and bleak but not necessarily super depressing. Disintegration is more depressing and more "elegantly" so. Maybe the most depressing being title track despite it being a little overblown towards the end. when you have a record that starts with "I think it's dark and it looks like rain" and ends with "I'll never lose this pain, never dream of you again" you know you got a depressing record on your hands.

Elphenor 05-25-2014 10:32 PM

Pornography is so over-the-top dark it's just badass. Like listening to Bahaus.

But Dis. is miserable in a genuine heartfelt way that's just brutal from start to end.

how about you make a post addressing the question at the top of the thread and drop the god damn commentary

The exploding boy 05-25-2014 11:00 PM

Pretty sure i just did that by recommending Disintegration too/instead.

Don't get so blinded by your hatred of me k? It makes you look bad.

reprise85 05-25-2014 11:04 PM

how to disappear completely

slunken 05-25-2014 11:06 PM

You guys are lame

slunken 05-25-2014 11:07 PM

This is the kind of garbage that gives sad music a bad name

slunken 05-25-2014 11:08 PM

Hi, I'm 50 years of soul music. Ever hear of me?

reprise85 05-25-2014 11:14 PM

Yeah cause i can really relate to a black man from the 60's complaining about his baby better than to a 90's middle class white rockstar expressing his existential angst. Get real.

The exploding boy 05-25-2014 11:23 PM

Stolen car by The Boss. I fucking love this song. It makes you want to get married just so you can go through the same shit..

And my go to choice for most depressing song ever has always been Leo Ferre - Avec le temps but it's french so you might not get much out of it. Old man sings over heartbreaking piano about how with time, everything fucking sucks and you die alone and miserable. Amazing.

Also Leonard Cohen's Hey that's no way to say goodbye.

Exit music for a film
My shit's fucked up
Mohammed's radio
Desperadoes under the eaves
Empty hearted town
Fake plastic trees
Daisies of the galaxy
Roland the headless Thompson gunner
Stumbleine
Soothe
Private universe
Under the Milky Way tonight

Exit music for a short white man with a small penis

vixnix 05-26-2014 06:42 AM

He's the world renowned maestro when it comes to depressing music...this is pretty well accepted

i used to love listening to This Mortal Coil. Lots of morose stuff there. Usually gave a good push to my depression.

I put together a playlist of live versions of Unknown Pleasures.

If only they were dead versions.

killtrocity 05-26-2014 10:19 AM

This obscure Canadian band called Faunts (their songs were used in the credits of Mass Effect 1 and 3) has some really sad stuff.

Waking to the silence in your voice
Waking to the light, I'll now rejoice
Knowing everything could come undone
And knowing that you and I will be one

If you dig that, then check out Twenty-Three, Meno Mony Falls, So Far Away, and Sleepwalker

killtrocity 05-26-2014 10:33 AM

Excellkent thread btw. Definitely have to second Pornography and Disintegration. Here's some other shit:

M83 - Too Late

Kill Hannah - Statues Without Eyes
- Scream

Slowdive - When The Sun Hits

Death CAb for Cutie - Summer Skin

NIN - And All that Could Have Been
- Leaving Hope

A Perfect Circle - The Noose

Alice in Chains - nutshell

the smiths - asleep

But pretty much the truth even if I was saying this a tad ironically. Prove me wrong when it comes to most people here. According to their suggestions (most of which featuring Radiohead, which I can't disagree with) you can't.

Trotskilicious 05-26-2014 12:53 PM

first song in the thread is the cover of hurt, just typical
