Corgan Blogs about 20th

http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/blog_10589

Those of you that may have seen either the press release or any info out there about the tour may find yourself scratching your head a bit about the shows format. We tried to keep it simple but as is our custom, its just not always that simple!! SO I thought I would post up some additional info to make sure that there was absolute clarity about what shows would be going on where-when.

First off, the 2 night format is about playing the most songs over 2 nights that would hopefully create very distinct shows from one another. No song will be repeated means exactly as it sounds, if you go to show #1 of a 2 night stand (black sunshine!), you wouldn't hear anything on night # 2 (white crosses) that you heard song-wise on the first night. The cities where we are playing only 1 show will feature an amalgamated show that will most likely have some songs we won't be playing in the 2 night format shows, but take from both the sunshine and the crosses show. Get it? I hope so...cause its a lot for us to digest as well.

Sunshine, Cross, or SS (special show for the one offs)

* Sat 11/1 Cleveland, OH Palace Theatre (SS)
* Mon 11/3 Toronto, ONT Massey Hall (sunshine)
* Tue 11/4 Toronto, ONT Massey Hall (crosses)

WHY!? This is info that needs to be seen somewhere other than page 4 of the "No songs repeated on setlist" thread.

the line interest me the most

Also, notice the tour dates show Kansas City, but the official site doesn't list KC.

you seem to not "get the joke". don't have a "sense of humor". "hahah"

Reyngel 09-25-2008 09:54 AM

What's interesting is that Billy's pretty much conirming that there will be at LEAST 41+ individual songs played this tour. Right?

-At least 20 different songs for Black Sunshine
-At least 20 different songs for White Crosses
-At least 1 song not played at the 2-night stands for the Special Shows

Couldn't ask for more, really.

I can't wait!

Kahlo 09-25-2008 09:57 AM

God all he ever gave us was everything the bastard

I HATES BILLY CORGAN!

In these times of cutting back, I find his spoiling the audience with hundreds of songs insensitive. He should just play bullet over and over to remind us of the current world climate.

rolmos 09-25-2008 10:07 AM

Air pollution... blues.

skipgo 09-25-2008 10:11 AM

man i hates him too skwisgaar!

topleybird 09-25-2008 10:14 AM

Strangely the only thing I think was confusing people was what "black sunshine" and "white crosses" indicated—meaningless names or description of content

And yet this is the one thing he does not address

Floppy Nono 09-25-2008 10:15 AM

since he took the time to name each night rather than just say we're playing two shows and each one is different, i'd imagine they have some sort of descriptive purpose in terms of setlist composition.

ChaosEffect 09-25-2008 12:10 PM

mehhhhh I wouldn't doubt that Bill just named the nights for the hell of it. Though it will be nice for a night without Bullet being played.

i didn't even think about this! AWESOME!

Reyngel 09-25-2008 12:28 PM

I have a feeling that:

-Black Sunshine = Gloomy, bitter, resentful songs, such as The Aeroplane Flies High, Zero, Quiet, Bullet, Stumbeline, Disarm, United States, Silverfuck, Love, Geek USA, Thru the Eyes of Ruby, and most of the Adore era's material

and

-White Crosses = Optimistic, yearning, hope-for-change songs, such as Untitled, Rocket, That's the Way My Love Is, By Starlight, To Sheila, Muzzle, Stand Inside Your Love, Porcelina, Winterlong, Sacred + Profane and Galapagos, and even For Martha, as sad as it is

I don't think one night will be loud and electric, and the other night soft and acoustic. Both nights could totally be pretty loud and rocking, but just in different energies.

Also, this juxtaposition of "themes" totally sums up the 20 years of the band, which is fitting. Their music has always been this dynamic sort of bitter and angry one moment, soft and angelic the next kind of thing.
