How is it treatin you guys? Refund or tears?

I efiled yesterday and with the combo of student loan interest paid, moving expenses, and incompetent withholdings, I'm owed about 3 grand state and federal combined.

My friend wasn't so fortunate. The HR lady entered 3 dependents for him (he has 0) so even though we make the same salary he was taxed about 5 grand less than me! Ouch. He's about to get slammed by the IRS I think.

That $3k could have been going all year into a pretax 401k, and then you'd have been taxed on even less earnings!




I love how people have too much withheld during the year, then think they're getting free money when they get their IRS check. Almost everyone who views it that way probably blows the money.

Mines going right into savings. And my work doesn't match 401k contributions until the 1 year anniversary which is coming up soon. At that point I'll be putting in the minimum % to get their max match.

I'll file the extension April 16. I forgot to make a quarterly payment on time last summer, I got a nice letter from Uncle Sam on that. Fuck that guy.

Through corporate tax loopholes and creative book keeping, I only pay a dollar a year in taxes on the millions I make.

It cracks me up when people brag about huge tax returns. You overpaid your taxes all year long and let the government hold onto your money interest free for you. Good job.

Stupid taxes suck. Already filed tho, getting some coin back. One thing that bothers me is how people get paid to have kids, while single, childless people get raped. Why can you get more money back than you paid in? I'm paying like 4grand a year in federal taxes and get barely 600 back while someone with 2 kids, who works half a year at minimum wage gets over 3grand back. Stupid.

People who rent subsidize the tax breaks of homeowners. people without kids subsidize the tax breaks of people with kids.

and people who actually work subsidize the insane low tax rates for the 1% who pay next to nothing in taxes.

it's call America! love it or leave it.

I mean... I can understand tax credits or assistance for people living below the poverty level, or trying to raise a kid on the minimum wage. But why should someone making $250k per year get a massive deduction for each of their spoiled rotten private school kids?

tax laws are written to encourage the nuclear family.

Because some of those people take care of other people's kids.

Also they pay for many, many other people's kids' lunches.
